OK, so I decided to hook up one of my Navi Saturns tonight and give it whirl. But its power input looks different from any other console I've ever seen. It has two inputs for the power: 1. One looks roughly like what you would plug into a cell phone. 2. The other looks like nothing I've ever seen before. It has 4 prongs on the inside, each for a different voltage according to the manual. Anyways, I hooked up both of them (because you're supposed to), and the Saturn booted up fine, I did the date thing and all that, and then when it started to load of PDIIZwei, in the intro screen it goes back to the main menu as if there had been an error. So I put in Mega Man X3 since its a PAL game and... for some reason... that and the US are the formats the system supports. This time, the screen goes dark and starts to get fuzzy and a weird sound comes from my TV. So I turn off the system, put in an Action Replay, and see if I can get a JP game to work. Now, it freezes up during the title screen. But when there's no game in there, it'll load up the action replay. I'm thinking one a few things is wrong. Either, for some odd reason, my NOT using a step down converter is making it operate weird. Or (and this one would suck), there's a problem with the laser or motor. I'm hoping not, because if thats a case, then I have an $800 paper weight (granted, I'm sure the other works fine if this is the case, only its across the state, argh!) Anyways, any insight would be appreciated.
Youu're in the US? I wouldn't have thought you'd need a step-down - you're talking 10-20V difference, most appliances should handle that (check the PSU, does it say 100-120V?) In the UK, we used to have 240V but they lowered it to 230V and nothing needed converting. Has it perhaps been converted? Check out Lawrence's guide on modding them.
Yes, I'm in the US. I wouldn't have thought it would've needed a step-down converter either, but it isn't working properly... and I was hoping that might be all it needs... Though the more I think about it... the more its seeming it could be a problem with the laser. :crying:
Clean the laser and see if that helps. If not then you may have to adjust the lasers pot to increse the power. Im not sure what that could be caused by. Have you tried a standard audio cd to see what that does?
I have not tried an audio CD. I shall do that after work today. How would you recommend I clean the laser? I haven't messed with the laser in a console before, and I definitely don't want to screw this thing up (even more anyways).
Yep,try to clean the laser,I did with mine and worked. Also, audio cds would be a good test for the unit to check it.
Q-tips and water should work. I try to stay away from rubbing alcohol just because it can contain glycerin which melts plastic... Nothing worse than fogging up a laser lense, especally on a navi
Humm... I tried cleaning the lense this evening and still no luck. The only game it will play is Panzer Dragoon II Zwei. With everything else, the screen either goes black after the Sega logo or it recognizes the game as a music CD. Any ideas?
