I've got a 360 which has gone from 3 to 2 red rings when powered up and i need some help with what i can do to fix it since its been opened and therefore cannot be sent to MS. If i'm correct 2 red rings means overheating but if i leave the xbox unplugged for a while like i should it still doesn't fix the problem and i'm back to square 1.

New paste has been applied and the heatsinks re-attached to the xbox but i still haven't got anywhere.

I'd appreciate your help before i give up on it.

Try x-clamps and a few add on fans.

    It's still gonna die eventually.

Read this in another forum...I've never actually tried it.

The images and youtube links don't appear to work any more.

Anyone here actually managed to successfully bring a 360 RROD back to life using any of the methods provided online and got it to continue to work for any length of time? The only dying 360s I have come across simply continue to get worse before going down the pan completely. I've had a few with broken seals and tried a few methods to extract more than a few extra games from a dying unit. Thus far nothing has worked for me - the only tip I have for anyone is to just save your sanity and go buy a new one, or if still under warranty send immediately back to Microshaft.

It's complicated to bring one back that will last for a long time.
You have to take off the heatsinks, add some washers and new screws (you have to drill wider holes in the metal casing to add these new screws) to prevent the board from warping, but once that's all done you (should) have a fully functional X360. You would've thought Microsoft would've done something to fix such a small problem very soon after launch instead of two years later.

If it's under warranty, you might as well send it back to Microsoft.
