Ok, I got it like three years ago or so, from Fox Interactive liquidation. It came in great condition (no wear/tear to PSX body), but no matching dualshock or even external PSU... Few days ago I picked up an incredibly ambitious, but unfortunately toasted (as I discovered home) famiclone "GLK book" (Famicom clone looking like semidecent laptop with a sticker for "LCD" and actual full laptop keyboard). Since famiclone was dead, I decided to use it for spares, and amazingly power supply socket fitted the PSU PCB of blue psx perfectly. After soldering it on, I was able to run debug playstation using univeral power suppy at 12V DC center pole "+". It runs all the originals, and even some, but very few, homebrew demos, which do run smoothly on a regular grey modded 7001 psx.

My question is: is that normal? Did all 1001 series psxes had weak lasers? Or is it because my burner can't burn below 8x? I do use quality media only (HP, Maxwell, Ritek), so it's not the shoddy CD-Rs...

Also, is it true or false that debug playstations (both blue and green) had 8 megabytes of memory insted of 2? Kind of make sence for unoptimized alpha/beta debugging/demoing... But I don't feel like taking motherboard out and start counting the dram chips ^_^

    Thanks a lot in advance!!!

PS: third party universal PSX PSU on eBay and online stores is a ripoff!!! It doesn't work at all. Junk junk junk. Achtung! Avoid by all costs! If you need a spare PSU, just find a second cheap unit of the same/similar model with may be dead/weak laser...

I paid 30$ all in all to get the "universal 110/220 all versions Playstation PS1 Power Supply"... Dang, I could've gotten a complete used playstation with joypads and AV/AC cords... Ah well... I lost some, I'll win some another day :)

Yeh those very early debug stations as well the early retail PSs had weak lasers.

What I don't understand is that the debug PS didn't have an internal PSU, to my knowledge all the DTL-H100* series had the internal PSUs either for 100-120v or 220-240v according to region. Are you saying that this intenal board was missing or it was a board with DC jack found generally found in the DTL-H110* series?

For your other question, I have no idea about how much memory they have but even then I would not have thought that they had as much as 6mb extra.

The blue and green psx debugging stations only have 2 megabytes of memory. The whole thing about having extra memory comes from the isa (and later pci) development cards, they each have 8 megabytes.

Indeed. There are debuggers around with the Rev. A GPU, though (all retail models but the first batch of SCPH-1000 had the Rev. B)

All the Debugging Stations comes with problem lasers, either KSM-440AAM or KSM-440ACM. I always replace them with the KSM-440BAM laser found in the small PSone machines. If you take the front cover from a KSM-440AAM/ACM and use it on a KSM-440BAM, the latter will fit in all the Debugging Stations. The KSM-440BAM units I have ordered from www.divineo.com for 28 USD each have been good.

The only thing I don't like about the Debugging Stations is their CXA 1645M RGB-to-video encoder. The PAL units filter out the chroma signal for NTSC discs, and vice versa. You have to use RGB to get color on all regions. Only the SCPH-700x and later retail PlayStations use the BH7240AKV compatible video encoder which actually gives PAL for PAL discs, and NTSC for NTSC discs.

I don't think you have any GPU issues with your homebrew discs. The "rev C" is faster than the others, but I believe you need some heavy vector graphics to notice any big difference. My blue DTL-1001 has a CXD8514Q GPU. My green DTL-1201 has a CXD8561BQ GPU. Of all my retails PlayStations, only the SCPH-700x and later models have CXD8561CQ GPUs.

I agree with you on the third party universal PSUs. All I have gotten suck. The screw holes have been too big on some of them. Some have had issues with their capasitors. Now I only buy defect PlayStation for parts instead :)

All the retail PlayStations and Debugging Stations have 2MB RAM.

    Best regards,

  6. It's so annoying when people list debuggers on ebay stating that the debugger has double the RAM of retail units.

Is divineo trustworthy with my credit card number?

Thats what I do, is cannibalize laser units from other systems, but then again they are used systems, so the lasers in them are probably about to go out.

Instead of buying HP or Maxell brand, go to a wholesale media online store like.. http://www.emediadepot.com/taiyoyuden.html .

Taiyo Yuden is simply the best media to burn PSX games to, especially if your burner can't burn less than 4x.

I have done business with Divineo many times, and have not had any trouble so far :)

If Divineo is trustworthy your credit card number? Maybe we feel different about this. As long as it is a credit card, and not a bank account linked debit card, I at least feel pretty safe. I have been shopping from small stores online for years... A couple of times I have had to request a "charge back" from my card issuer, but that have actually been from hotels that have charged for an extra night and such... Probably luck too, but also a little risk management :)

Thanks for the advice on the Taiyo Yuden media. I will check it out!!
