Why can't NTSC/J hardware play NTSC/U games past model 3000 without a boot disc? There is nothing besides the security code I know of that makes NTSC/U and J different.

Bad_Ad84, I figured you would know about the protection, it was for those that don't know how it works. Also, where is the MM3 code for 12F629? =)

I have a vague recollection that the Japanese systems have a bios check like the pal psone (might even have been jinn that told me).

    Mm3 for 12f629 -http://www.gatchan.net/en/2012/08/27/multimode-pour-12f629/

No, the three string method was used with flawfixing code used on old multimode chip (1.X versions). After revions was removed and you must burn the correct one for the correct region PAL, USA, JAP Hex.
That is the classic oldcrow code ported to the 12f629 made by garyopa. It is simply the 4 wire mode. I never had this problem. Installed some and works flawlessly with multi CD psx games :p.

You mean the problem of B\W screen with import games? It can be simply resolved with an internal mod or, the best option, using RGB cable.

One last thing, the PSone diagrams that BAD posted have one flaw and it's my fault for not catching it earlier. Point 3 should go to leg 44 NOT 43, so you need to solder to the right resistor, not the middle.

Are you sure about that? The one chip uses that pin on this board revision too

Hi, hope It's no problem to use this thread. I have a couple of MM3 12f629 modchips and every time I installed on of these in one of my Playstations (Pal 7500 and Psone), they didn't work and all I got was the red screen. I am not sure but I guess it's with all these Install diagrams that show me different solderpoints even on the same models. Most of them say to use the 3/4 Wire method, but it never worked, so which Installdiagram is the correct one?

Try adding a 100nf cap between pin 1 and 8 of the pic chip

Just to be clear, I used the multimode HEX file from http://www.gatchan.net/ and it states that the install diagrams are the same as for 12c508 which use 6-8 wires instead of 3-4. So the 3-4 wire diagrams are bogus?

My chips are made with the MM3 pal Hex from gatchan, which Diagram do I need? It says the same like 12C508, but there are dozen diagrams , some with 3-4 wires, some with 8. Are the 3-4 wire diagrams bogus then?

Just a different mode (no stealth).

7 wire is stealth mode and the install you want.

    That is the ONEchip installation.

This is the MM3 install for the PSone. You just need to disconnect 2 and put 3 there and disconnect 4 completely. Do not worry about 8 - thats just ground and can be found all over the board.

Tried it and still not working. Do those 2 Red spots without number serve a purpose?

    No, just an edited pic.

I assume you have ignored the part where I initially told you to put a 100nf cap between pin 1 and 8?

I don't think this is right. I've tried various wiring diagrams and neither MM3(12C50x/12f629) or Mayumi v4 works at all with the NTSC-J PSone but Mayumi v5.1 works fine without boot discs or patching, including import backups.

    Same for me.

This sometimes fixed the MM3 red screen but still never loaded past the PS logo screen with either NTSC-J or NTSC-U discs. Should unused pins be connected to ground?

In any case, I haven't tested the SCPH-101 but SCPH-100&103 with Mayumi v5.1 (6-wire) and SCPH-102 with Onechip (8-wire) has worked best so far.

Anyone got the Mayumi V5.1 hex/install diagrams? I seem to be missing that one!
