I've bought a Waka Upscan Converter SLPH-00016 a few weeks ago. Unfortunately it doesn't work properly. Currently I does only work for PS2 games. When I try it with PS1 or any other system I will either get a flickering screen or a black screen.

    This is my test setup:

    Sony PlayStation2 PAL:
    NTSC PS2 games - work
NTSC PS1 games - black screen

Sony PSone PAL (boots up in 60Hz due to modchip):
NTSC PS1 games - Flickering screen*

    Sony PlayStation PAL:
NTSC PS1 games - Flickering screen*
PAL PS1 games - black screen

*According to my monitor the Waka Converter outputs 720x480 @ 53Hz. I'm not sure if that's true, but it would explain the flickering screen because that strange refresh rate isn't supported by my monitor.

I'm pretty sure the Waka Converter doesn't support PAL games. So I thought the PAL systems might be the issue. I have an adapter which allows me to connect any SCART RGB cable to the Sony Multi Out connector. I used this adapter to connect the Waka Converter to a Japanese Sega Saturn and a Japanese PC Engine. Both systems result in the same flickering screen with the same resolution and refresh rate as described above.

I'm lost now. Any idea what could be wrong?

Do you have an RGB-cable with Japanese pinout? You said you have an adaptor, but I'm not sure if this is what you meant. If it is, never mind.

It could be intended for specific Japanese monitors.

Its probably intended for CRT's, which dont need to be as precise on the refresh rate
