    Hey Guys

Any tips on earphones for around $50? They're too hook up to my PC to listen to music and other stuff. I'd like a microphone as well, but it's not necessary. What are good brands to look at in that price range?

    Arigats,
    Eric

I just ordered some Razor Protones for my MP3 player for 10$. The retail price is suppose to be 50$, maybe that's not a good sign...

Yeah, a pair of $50 Sennheisers should give reasonable sound quality... I used to have a $70 pair and they were pretty good, used them for composing at college.

How can you have the guts for spending 50 bucks in headphones?? XDDD Man, Sonia, Pansansonic, Sansumg, Yamoho, etc, work perfect and have great sound quality (not kidding).

I have a pair of sennheiser HD212Pro's. They were £25, which is frankly a bargain for the quality

My first pair of "good" headphones were a pair of Sennheiser EH-150's. I picked them up for $40. They weren't the most comfortable pair for extended listening periods, but the sound quality more than made up for it.

EDIT: Since you're in Japan, I'd recommend you look for anything manufactured by Audio-Technica. I'm sure you could pick up a pair of ATH-A500's for $50...

I probably should have said that I want a deep bass sound...

I spent $100 once on some inner ear earphones but they fit like crap and I ended up ditching them. I went through a few other pairs and finally settled on a $10 cheapy that acutally was more to my liking than the others. After a year they're starting to lose quality (one ear louder than the other) so I'm looking for my next pair.

I can't really afford to spend hundreds of dollars on high end equipment which is why I put the limit at $50. I tend to use them daily and they tend to get knocked around a bit which is another concern. I just want mid-range quality, good bass, and also the ability to raise/lower the volume on the cord. When you have to go through a few clicks on your PC it becomes a pain in the ass....

Depends on what you mean by bass. If you want true, quality bass then you're looking at high-end headphones like Grado, but they're beyond your price range. The majority of cheap headphones are severely lacking in bass, although $50 Sennheisers will probably not be too bad for your purposes.

If you're talking about chavvy car subwoofer bass, then I would recommend the Genius HS-04V. They have a built-in "bass vibration" feature that does give a fair bass boost, although I've shown a true audiophile who uses Grado himself, and he said, "Yuck!" If you're just looking for bass for the sake of bass, those are your perfect match ;-) We sell them for around $30-40, I do believe.

Yeah, in the end I might have to go for a big pair o' cheap headphones. I was at the store yesterday and saw a bunch for sale but I wasn't able to test any of them out. I looked on Yahoo Auctions for Sennheiser but found nothing, then saw them in the store I was in, so I guess they do sell them here.

None of the higher priced models seemed to have the volume control on the cable, which I guess becomes a bit gimmicky at that level of quality. But since I'm using them on my PC it really is a must have feature since I don't want to have to touch my mouse to change the volume.

Looks like I'll just have to pick one and hope...

They are pretty good in the 40-70 range.
As you can see on the pics they come with a mic (seperate wire) which can be attached to your shirt or similar, sounds odd but works well, and for the few occasions I use a microphone this is a better solution than a permanent headset that bothers me while not using it.

Well I ended up going with a generic brand (elecom) or $30. Apparenly the need for a microphone made the only options PC headphones, for which they have zero top quality manufacturers producing items. Instead it's just cheap crap from China, so I got the best one available.

Maybe this would be a good market for companies to explore? I went from about 50 different choices in the headphone section to 3 in the PC section...

There are quite a lot of PC headphones, at least there are over here! And there are gamer-oriented sets with better quality, too.

I'd have gone with the Genius myself, tbh. Most of their PC headsets are pretty good, but the bass vibration system is quite nice for the money!

I spent $20 on a pair of Sennheisers. The build quality isn't great, but the sound is fantastic.
