I'm looking for a free (preferably free) program that can convert mpeg to divx. All I know about is Dr. Divx but that costs money and is the last resort. Thing is, I bought Fraps and started to record game footage of me playing Thief: all the series for a possible class project if my professor approves it. So, know of any out there that are easy to use?
Fraps encodes MPEG now? Can't you make it use some AVI codec? Anyway, get VirtualDubMod - you can open MPEG1/2 videos in that and save them as whatever AVI you have codecs for. Don't forget about the sound too - if Fraps encoded it in VCD-standard MP2, you might wanna convert that to MP3 for DivX/XviD. VirtualDubMod has filters and stuff too if you want to resize/crop/whatever. If it's really crappy blocky MPEG you might be able to fix it with AviSynth - the most bitchinest video processor in the world (can do MPEG1/2 conversions too!) - but that'll require learning scripts and junk. www.doom9.org is great for this kinda stuff.
Virtual Dub -- it rocks. You just need the proper codecs on your machine, and about 20 minutes to read the instructions.
no need to read the intstructions just remember to do 2 passes and use xvid + try to use the same resolution and dont get exited with smooting filter... smoot it just a lil bit or it will look all washed out errrr i hate that on fansubs >_<
