Not sure where to put this query so hopefully this sub forum is ok. I usually play my Neo on a 19" LCD HD TV using an RGB scart cable. The picture quality is fantastic and I'm very pleased with it. Today however I gained access to a 42" LCD HD TV and so I immediately hooked up the Neo. The picture is nice and clear, no colour bleeding or scanlines however the top inch of the image is incredibly unstable, it's solid but it keeps waving from left to right. Anybody know why this is happening? The scart is plugged into the RGB scart socket and I have checked all picture settings and aspect ratios. Even in 4:3 it still does it.
If you get a stable picture on your 19", then i'd suspect that the problem lies with the 42" telly. Have you tried all the scart sockets on the 42"? Also check the TV's settings in case any picture enhancement functions are active, some can degrade picture quality.
Tried everything. It seems to be a failure to hold onto the horizontal as now the whole screen is moving. I might try the system again on my 19" as this is the first I've used it since it was packed away by my parents when they did a room move. There's a chance something might have gotten damaged.
Just googled 'neo geo aes sync', and it appears that this is a common issue. Something to do with the sync in rgb mode, some tv's can handle it, some can't. There should be a mod/fix to clean up the sync signal, hopefully someone on here will point you in the right direction.
I've been trying to mod my Neo Geo AES, but RGB just looks completely garbled on my monitor: http://85.13.243.2/~nekomaco/SANY0036.MP4 It does seem to randomly affect some displays more than others. Obviously, your problem doesn't seem to be as bad as mine, but apparently it can be fixed by using higher resistance resistors on the RGB lines. I just can't be bothered at the moment though...
the neo geo has some shocking levels at RGB and sync levels, however the model number of your Neo Geo can be a indicator of how bad it will be.
This is interesting you mention certain serial numbers have problems with RGB output, can you elaborate which serial numbers gives this problem? I have RGB to Scart and the output looks pretty good on a 28" CRT, I have a 47" LCD and tried it yet.
http://nfggames.com/games/neorgb/ Here is a pretty good guide to start with but there is no definitive guide. Many people have had varying results with different serials across the whole range. I guess it also comes down to the cables and TV you use as well as your own perception of what is great/awful. General consensus is the lower the serial the better your RGB output is quite likely to be. Also the Japanese models seem to have a higher standards than the US and EURO models. My model is in the 50,000's and on certain TV's with an RGB scart cable the picture is truly incredible, Blu-Ray and HD can go and **** themselves as far as I'm concerned.
Thanks for the reply, i have a Japanese AES in the 30000 bracket so according to your article it seems I've been lucky and got one of the better RGB outputs. One day when I get my house finished /i'll try the AES out on the 47" and see what the quality is like
That info needs to be clarified. The only differences you will see via the the Neo is the color brightness and saturation between the 2 revisions. You can easily remove the resistor and cap combo and use the suggested values by Sony on both input and output. A 3-6 needs to have 3 traces cut and removed to get rid of the striping effect. Also the most common picture problem is due to the Neo's refresh rate which is 59.18hz which some TVs dont like.
