Neo Geo CD; no sound effects? Bad cap or trace?

Eying a NGCD on eBay, but it has not sound effects or dialogue; only the music plays. What I think is a bad trace on the sound chip or a capacitor. What do you guys think it could be?

 

Thats what I thought. Maybe a bad trace? Saw a lukemorse video on a Neo Geo with a bad trace.

 

Only one way to find out... open it and check the traces.

I think that's his point, we could speculate all day and night as to what it might be but until you open it and actually start looking there is no way to say for sure.

So buy it or don't but until you open it there is no telling what is wrong

Think about it in this way: even if someone said "yes" to your question, what if that's not the cause of the problem? You seem to be asking for "what's the most likely cause for this fault", but in reality a lot of things could cause a fault like that to manifest itself.

What you're looking at, is a symptom of the actual fault (e.g. the fault is a bad trace, but you're observing a lack of audio instead). The actual way to find the actual problem, is to examine the unit itself.

A bad connection (e.g. bad trace or cracked/cold solder joint) is a super-common cause of a lot of electronic faults.
