Hello again people. Today I have a question about a NegGeo CD toploader. This is a japanese unit, and I got a annoying problem. I tested a game in three situations: 1 - Using Normal way (console closed) If I try to use the normal way, the game don't start. 2 - Upside down (console closed) If I try to use the console upside down, the success rate is 30%. 3 - Upside down (console opened) If I just put the Cd unit upside down, the game works (success rate 100%). All I could find until now, was about a failure CD unit, pot regulation and the pressure that the screws are making in the cd unit. So I tried: - Change the cd unit for a new one - regulate the pot - regulate screws that fix the cd unit. Any idea what is happening?
On the CD the center piece that holds the disc isn't attached on very well and moves very easily. I've found often over time from the lid being pushed down, the unit had the disc too close to the lens. (probably explains why it's working better upside down, it's sitting a little further at this point). There are replacement drives with the center piece better seated, or you could try to push it up just a hair. What I did was pushed it into the correct position and literally just taped it, haven't had an issue since.
hi ash , sounds similar to the old PS1 problem where if you turn it upside down the laser will read the game that it normally wouldn't. Maybe the spindle is too high or too low causing your problem , i'm not sure if it is adjustable on Neo Geo CD but it is on some other consoles.
That's the word I was looking for in my previous post, spindle (I'm extremely tired). Try adjusting it, it moves very freely on the NeoGeoCD.
commendations on helping even when your ultra tired milo , ash check this photo in the thread below. http://www.neo-geo.com/forums/showthread.php?238604-Broken-Neo-Geo-CD-System-Questions
Alright. First, thanks for all answers! I could fix it pushing a little the spindle as you said and as the link are showing. Maybe the new lens wasn´t even necessary. Thanks again! All your help was really appreciated!
If it starts getting to the point where the spindle moves pretty freely (it'll probably happen eventually) there are replacement motors with better attached spindles. But I'd just open the entire thing up and get a piece of tape nice and tight where the spindle should be.
