Quick question: is it possible to get stereo from a NeoCD? I understand it uses the same pinout on the AV port as an AES, which is mono, so I assume there's L & R RCA sockets on the rear? If not, I'm getting the soldering iron out, yes?

    Thanks

    Yep.
Here's a back view of a Neo CD console:

A/V for RGB and composite for the stereo. Smashing, thanks for that.

Are the reports of the front-loader being unreliable greatly exagerated? It's certainly a cool looking bit of kit. But then a standard top-loader is nice and cheap.

I heard the later "double speed" version was the most unreliable of all the CD systems. Front loader is nice, but it's rather large in size.

Yeah, reckon I'll just go for a normal top-loader.

Anyhow, I've seen the NeoGeo stick for the PS2, but I didn't know there was a PS version of the Neo pad. I found the pic here. Can't seem to find anywhere selling it though? I really like the Neo pad, it'd be great to have one for the PSone.

The stick is good, but the controller is really an acquired taste that isn't for everyone. I'm not Sony Playstation owner, but I believe the Neo pad was only sold as a bundle with one of the King of Fighters collections.

CDZ? CDZ are great. In performance it really is CDZ > Top > Front.

OK, thanks for that, I'll see if I can find this KoF set. I only want the pad though.. I actually really like the Neo pad, imho it's the best controller I've ever used. That mini jstick (and the NGPC stick) are absolutely great when I can't be bothered with the arcade stick.

EDIT: After checking Play-Asia, it seems that KoF: Orochi Collection for the PS2 included the Neo Stick 2. Seems the Neo Pad 2 was available seperately, but in very limited quantities. And they're out of stock :crying:

CDZ is prone to overheating in long sessions, can be alieviated by keeping it off teh floor/good ventilation etc......

It's not 2 speed either, just has a larger cache to spool bigger data lumps.

Ive had my Neo CD over 10 years and it is an undistuctable brick of power.

Both my CD pads broke within a year hehe, get the sticks in!

Yeah, this whole business with the CDZ is too much. I'm not taking my chances.

Baseley - What CD you got? Original or top-loader?

I think I may have actually found the machine to collect for. I love my big fat MVS carts, but I've always had a thing for CD based machines. There's something that's just sooo cool about the NeoCD, and the MegaCD's all lonely by itself. Plus I understand some games are better, such as NeoTurfMasters' extra course.

Does anyone know what happened to that guy who was converting MVS/AES games to CD? I can't find the site anymore, but iirc, he'd converted ZedBlade and a few others. Certainly a very cool project, as there's a few games that SNK really should have released.

True I love CD based consoles the best, I have a pal top loader which i modded to full screen/60hz only last year hehe.

It is a wonderful machine, fears over loading are often overstated (but of course in some later cases so true) has a great catalogue of games and some nice collector peices like the AOF3 set and a few expensive softwares.

I just got into the NGCD in the last month or so and have been loving it ever since. Got a top loader with 2 control pads, and I've been quite pleased. The loading doesn't bother me, especially when I need to get another drink or take a piss or whatnot. So far I've got about 28 games for it.

cdoty actually has 4 conversions on one of his sites, which i've obtained copies of and played on the NGCD hardware without a problem (other than a sound/graphics glitch in Neo Mr. Do!). You might ask him some questions if you have any. I'd really love to see more see the light of day.
