hi guys, just wondering if anyone knew what the approximate production numbers were for the neo-geo CDZ?
Wasn't the CDZ JPN-region only? The other Neo CD units were sold in multiple regions, which would account for larger production numbers. I've got a CDZ, which bizarrely I bought only because I had no other source for an additional control pad at the time. Even so, I liked that it was relatively easier to install a region switch, so I went ahead and did it. I never use it, as my standard Neo CD top-loader is bulletproof.
Yes it was Japan only but given the expense of launching a major revision of hardware it seems strange to only produce so few. I would imagine there are more units than GoH suggested.
I always thought it was more than the frontloader, which I believe was confirmed way back as 25,000 units. Although I've heard / read 10,000, 30,000, 40,000 and 50,000 for CDZ. !?! 500-1000 seems far too low.
I have seen atleast one claim that the CDZ was released outside of Japan as well. 1000 is definitely too low. I would think if it was low, maybe something like 2500 to 5000 units. But you never know. NeoGeo was produced in rather small numbers outside of the MVS.
i try to answer at his question so we list the Nombers series of the console, of course the following not guarantee the production but 30.000 are sure probably more http://www.neogeofans.com/leforum/showthread.php?t=38403
No, it was only officially released in Japan. However, like the other two iterations it will have been mass exported with some sellers claiming it to be an official *insert country of sale here* unit.
you think the Neogeo CD of brazil was not assemble in brasil with japan element ? have you other exemple of sellers who have this national argument ?
well, i don't know if this means anything but the serial number on it is #0021674.... not sure if that's the 21,674th CDZ or that encompasses all neo cd systems..
Judging by the serial numbers in the linked thread, each model of Neo CD has its own serial number set, so it could well be the 21,674th CDZ unit.
It's kind of a shame SNK didn't think ahead with the NGCD. They should have had a mechanism to expand the memory in the system. Kind of a shame that after KoF99 it died out, and just in general how games like Metal Slug 2 and KoF99 have so much loading.
been looking around the net for awhile now, most cdz serials i've seen are in the 20,000-25,000 range.... haven't seen any outside that range....
i can't really make out the pic, is that 500,524?? that would mean they made an absolute mountain of CDZ's i could just imagine a giant warehouse somewhere in hokkaido like the end of raiders of the lost ark.
