When we decided to do TG on the CGB, we also asked Neo Geo for information on their platform to see if there was an easy conversion. It took them 6 months to reply and then they tried to apply pressure to us converting a 3/4 finished game. Anyone else got Neo Geo stories?
Top Gear? Top Gun? Either way I'm interested in hearing whatever Piglet has to say about the development process.
Tomb Raider for the Color Gameboy. It took us 8 months and it took Neo Geo 6 months to even offer us opening talks. Since each tile had only 3 colours, I would have most likely used both, overlayed to make the levels. Like the CGB version (but better... that would please the artists), I would have overlayed sprites for Lara to make her look better. I never found out, but did you get H-Blank time on the Neo Geo? Could you swap BG,Tile, or sprite colors (or sprite positions & definitions for that matter)? I already had an appropriate sound-driver from the Master System although I've read that the Neo Geo had 2 6-bit D->A sound channels which would have been majorly cool. All music made on sound-chip, all sound effects as samples (that would have pleased the musicians).
Considering the lack of software on the NGPC, I would have thought SNK would have been welcoming developers with open arms. And lots of cake. Especially considering Tomb Raider is/was a very high profile IP. I'm unsure how accurate the list of unreleased titles is on the NGPC Master List, but I'd love to have 3rd Mission, R3 and Windjammers. In case no-one's seen one, here's a pic of the dev kit
Certainly what it looks like. The LCD screen is just above the pad socket; you can see the cable connecting it to the MoBo. I'd kill for one of these units.
Right... that's the LCD screen. I was trying to figure out what it was. Pretty obvious really! Definitely one of the coolest pieces of dev hardware I've seen, I'd love to find out more. I went to the watermark site but aside from some chest-beating I didn't see much content, certainly nothing to do with that unit. Piglet, have you ever see one of these?
Do you think it's possible to somehow mod a retail NGPC for RGBS output? The guys over at SMS Power have managed it with a Game Gear, but that's a completely different kettle of fish I suppose. I'd like to dabble in a bit of Pocket homebrew. I really like the machine and have a fair few games. I've been trying to find a Pocket Linker flash cart for ages, but I'd really like a nice new USB flash cart with decent software. I want to play the English translation of Card Fighters Clash 2 on real hardware.
They pop up on the ngpcdev mailing list from time to time, if you join the group and post a request someone might have one.
Hello I dont know if that's could help you but i propose to download the official programmation kit given by SNK at some french game compagny http://neogeocdworld.info/html/dossiers/ngpc/ngpc.htm
