I just bought a neogeo pocket color + 9 games: metal slug 1st mission Pac man Puzzle Bobble Mini Sonic Pocket Adventure Cherry Master Samurai Showdown 2 Fatal Fury First Contact King of Fighters R-2 Neo Turf Masters I was wondering what games i am missing that are must haves for the system and what are resonable prices for those games ?
Nice choice picked up some sweet games thar. You gotta get SNK vs CAP : MOTM, rock der hoose! and SNK vs CAP : Card Fighters Clash For a sweet ass RPG go for Biomotor Unitron, i love it, first NGPC i bought. Tennis n baseball are just fun.
Don't quote me on this... Don't take my word for it... But I hear Faselei...or however it spelled is a really good strategy game...though you'll never be able to get the english version boxed...(it wasn't released) the carts are out there...and reasonably cheap too.
Yeah, MetalSlug 1st & 2nd Missions. And Sonic. Strangely enough, it seems that the NGPC is getting a re-release of sorts in the UK - As the 'Pocket Colour Arcade' http://www.videogameimports.com/get_hw.php?product=734 They have these in my local Gamestation too (Peterborough).
I got the same set only mine came with the NGPC in it's original box and i got 3 extra games with it and still was cheaper than that set they have.
Faselei is a nifty one to get, and not really all that expensive, either - there are both UK and US versions on eBay all the time for less thank $20. But yeah, don't expect the US one to be in anything other than the plastic clamshell case - according to neo-geo.com, that is the only way it was released, which is odd. And good luck finding the UK one boxed - it's frigging expensive. If you liked Pac-Man, look out for Crush Roller, another fun little game that uses the joystick 4-way ring thingie. If you're lucky enough to find it for a cheap price, I'd suggest picking up Cotton - it's a port of the PC Engine (I believe) version of everybody's favorite cutesy witch shooter, and the closest thing you'll get to any sort of shmup on the NGPC, sadly, unless you count the Metal Slugs (which go without saying that you must get them, too). As far as fighters go, if you're looking for cheap ones, snag Last Blade - it's a lot of fun, and has a ton of replay value. Also one to pick up is Gals Fighter - it's like a King Of Fighters with none of the guys in it. If you're an Ogre Battle/Tactics fan, I'd suggest picking that one up. There is a downside tho - it's all in Japanese. The upside is that it's all hiragana letters, so if you know a little japanese or whatever, it will be easier to read. And I believe that's it for right now. I'm sure I could think of more. ^__^ If you're wondering about prices or the rarity of games, www.neo-geo.com has a price/rarity guide for the NGPC games in, what else, their price guide section. Also, if you're really bent on collecting only UK or only US, a word of advice, as most auctions are either unclear or wrong in their description of these two art regions: If there's a pic of the cart and it has a rainbow in the upper right part of the label, it's UK. If it has the big stupid ESRB E or T symbol on it anywhere, it's US.
Uh.... I bought the PAL Faselei recently. Yes it is PAL, not NTSC or NTSCJ. If you can afford it I may be interested in parting with it.
Yeah, as Tachikoma has shown, the UK (not quite sure if you should refer to handheld games by PAL and NTSC, seeing as they are all the same :smt043 ) one was released boxed, but it is thought that the US version was just cart and case, which is really odd. Does anyone know anything about this?
What I heard, was that they were about ready to release the US Faselei (it had been made) when SNK recalled all their stock. The cases and cartridges were out there unassembled without the boxes. Apparently, they've since been assembled...and sold on Ebay...found in warehouses they were. This would explain the lack of boxes...and the fact that its relatively common nowadays.
Yes you're right. The game was ready to be released and all the manuals and packaging had been printed and was located in the US when SNK went bankrupt and was taken ove by aruze. Aruze pulled back of the US and Eurpopean market and therefore all the manuals and packaging were destroyed/recycled and the games were shipped back to japan (to be recycled for the japanese market?). Then in 2003 somebody bought all the leftover stock in all kinds of warehouses in Japan and "re-released" the NGPC in those bundles which have games without packaging and manuals. This all goes for the US version of Last blade as well which was never officially released in the us either.
NO doubt U need to get all other Fighting games for NGPC.. Specially Gal Fighters and SNC VS Capcom :smt040 King of Fighters Battle De Paradise is a good deal to...
I mostly agree with what everyone else has recommended, though I personally think the Metal Slug games for the Neo Poke are pretty disappointing and that Battle de Paradise is really shitty. Games I'd add to the list: First and foremost, there's Ganbare, Neo Poke-kun! This is the best game on the Neo Geo Pocket, in my opinion. It has such great humor and that full-on Japanese quirkiness we all love so much throughout plus some of the mini-games are really very cool. Next, Puzzle Link 2. I think people tended to overlook it because it's not a "big name" puzzle game like Puyo Pop or Bust-a-Move/Puzzle Bobble, but in my opinion it's much better than either of those. The best puzzler on the Neo Poke, in fact, I'd say. Puzzle Link 1 is just about as good, but go for 2 if you have the choice. It's also the same as Puzzle Tsunagete Pon! in Japan. King of Fighters R-1 deserves a mention, too. All of the Neo Poke's fighting games are excellent, but there's definitely an upper echelon that's made up of Last Blade, MotM, Gals Fighters and KoF R-1. In terms of gameplay and polish, it's quite a bit better than R-2, though R-2 offers a lot more extra frills like the making mode and all that. Lastly, I have to mention Cool Boarders Pocket. This is one of my favorite games on the system, but no one else ever recommends it...in fact, everyone thoroughly trashes it. I'm not quite sure why because it's just a thoroughly enjoyable game to me. Very simple and repetitive, it's true, but that's not always a bad thing. If you enjoy classic mid-'80s arcade games like Paperboy and that era, then I think you'd enjoy Cool Boarders Pocket. Oh, and one more thing, I think they've become pretty rare, but if you manage to find one, I can't recommend enough getting a Bung linker and flash cart. They're not only good for pirating games (which can be quite useful in some situations), but the really cool thing in my opinion is the ability to play all the homebrew, such as my own game, Every Thing: Or, even better, some of the really professional homebrews like Shufflepuck Cafe, Dodger or Puzzle Gems. Plus, the linker can be used for backing up and restoring save games form your legit Neo Poke carts. All in all, very useful, it has definitely deepened my enjoyment of the system. ...word is bondage...
Those flash linker cards are impossible to get :Hangman: I'll be getting my NGPc in the mail tomorrow :smt040 and then i'll just have to wait for a few games from lik-sang. To bad i haven't found any shops in holland yet that sell NGPC games with case and instructions but only dumb ass cart only's :axe:
Yeah, it's a remake more or less. The opponents you play against are different and it's missing the screen where you choose your next opponent (you just face random opponents). The gameplay is the same, though, and it's very tight not to mention a ton of fun. I get quite addicted to it and have trouble putting it down once I start. ...word is bondage...
Ahh crap, the guy who sold me the NGPC forgot to post it now i'll get it on tuesday :Hangman: I've been reading all your recommendation and now the only porblem is finding the games boxed for a descent price in holland or maybe on ebay.
sorry to drag this topic into OT-ness again, but is that Shufflepuck game the same as the one on Mac? Man, the loads of fun I had with that :smt040 But I assume it plays very differently with a digital stick instead of a mouse.
