The search option didn't give any hits, so i guess nothing about this game has been posted yet. It is now possible to preorder this shmup game from NGEV.TEAM who are aiming for a Q2 2013 release, for the DC. http://www.ngdevdirect.com/product_info.php?products_id=57
Like man NGDev games, this looks cheap. There's more impressive shooters on the Saturn. Then again it may play well.
Looks like my kinda game, if its done right gameplay wise it should be fun, most saturn shooters these days are stupidly overpriced
I'm not a fan of NG Dev team but the people behind DUX...... HATE THEM. On twitter I suggested NG Dev Team try a a Beat Em Up. But the DUX team responds for whatever reason saying it's too much work. What lazy dicks.
This is actually based somewhat on a WIP gamemaker game by Gryzor, who has been working on it since at least 2010. Here is more info and a playable demo which is surprisingly charming and VERY good! (I enjoyed it at any rate) http://gzrgames.blogspot.com/2012/04/new-xyx-demo.html Gryzor is an excellent pixel artist, and was recruited to do pixel art for NG Dev's recent game Gunlord - which is where the connection to NG Dev Team and the idea of redoing XYX probably started. NG Dev has said that Neo XYX will have new graphics, gameplay, music, etc, compared to XYX for PC, but so far the video above, the screenshot on the top of NG Dev's facebook, look very very very similar to the graphics and gameplay of PC XYX (which isn't exactly a bad thing as I happen to like it). The pc version of XYX is definitely in the mold of first half of the 90s 16bit era arcade shmups in terms of artwork and overall style and design, but the gameplay is fairly fast paced and enjoyable. It's not exactly bullet hell, but there do come to be lots of bullets and enemies on the screen. In that respect, it might disappoint when compared outside this context to other shmups on psx/saturn/dreamcast - but this is basically going to be a neogeo port of a game that is deliberately emulating early 90s themes anyway, and doing comparisons to other games within that context, I think it will turn out to be pretty ok.
I'm not a fan of shooters, even less so for vertical shooters and DVD cases, but I think any homebrew project which keeps people interested and extends the life of the Sega Dreamcast can only be a good thing. It is a shame we took the wrong approach when starting to develop my own shooter idea years ago. Maybe one day someone will get round to it and give you a real mindfuck to deal with Is it just me or does a 77 track list for the musical score sound like a lot of music for this kind of game, given as it only has 6 stages? Perhaps it is 'Nintendo hard' with a ridiculous amount of really long sublevels.
Did you notice at the end of that video, a little speech bubble pops up near the ship that says "fuck!"
Compared to all the effects used in Sturmwind this looks cheap indeed, but i rather play a cheap looking game than endless wait on a fancy one. I agree it all depends on the playability, so we have to wait regardless.
I don't know. Rereading the link it says ?? tracks. It was late when I posted and I was tired, plus I wasn't wearing my glasses so it is possible I was mistaken.
the good news is their next game will be a topdown Ikari/Mercs type of game, a genre we haven't had yet in the DC indie scene. besides, just coz something looks bad...I remember Truxton on the megadrive looking like shit, still for some reason I played it for hours on end...
