HAHA yes.... Thanks to the response to my asking if there were Turboclones in existance. Surely there must be a Duoclone out there? I was also wondering if NeoGeo clones exist. At first I thought the huge meg counts wouldn't make it worth while, but these Chinese pirate chappies are crafty gits, so I didn't know if they could compress the ROMS onto smaller carts. Or make cloned Neo CD units. So, has anyone ever come across a Neoclone? Do they exist? Pics? Cool. Cheers
cartridges do At gamespot.com under features they have a feature called the history of the neo geo. It talks about how certain games that are rare to get were really arcade roms with a converter built in and sold as an offical negeo aes cartridge when really its a mvs rom board inside with a converter, good feature thats worth a look. heres the link to the feature http://www.gamespot.com/features/6089278/index.html
The world is rife with bootleg Neo carts, they can be made rather easily with an eeprom burner a sac cart and roms. As for systems, I dont rekon there are any, closest is the licenced Korean NeoGeo, the Vic-A.
Is the Korean easier to come by than the regular one? I sure hope so and I hope that they play regular AES carts and that I hope they make cheaper Korean versions of them too.
Korean ones are much rarer than "standard" ones. There are no real "clone" Neo Geos, I think the Samsung one was officially licensed. It surely uses original SNK parts. There DEFINATELY aren't any DUO clones, thats rediculous Cloned Neo CD? Most likely, NONE of these will EVER exist. All cloned systems use well, cloned parts. Its almost safe to say that XGA industries, a Hong Kong wholesaler/3rd party producer has put out ALL the hardware in clone systems. In 1998 after many years of trying they successfully put out a SNES with minimal casualties, it hardly sold due to is high $30 price so they probably wont be producing any more clone systems.
Check them out: www.xinga.com [They produced the Game Station (a SFC clone + GDSF7 clone in 1) and a "SNES2" clone.]
when Playmore bought SNK I hoped they would rerelease some Neo Geo stuff... :Hangman: (man, a NGCD remake PSone-style, that would get me running to the store *instantly* :smt043 )
Neo Geo CD died in ~1999, they're never going to touch it again. AES puts it to shame so hard, and thats not a good sign.
The only plus of the neo-geo cd is that the system and games are affordable, but the loading times are soooooooo long :smt009
that more frustrating myth than anything...if you have a cdz( I do) the load times aren't bad at all...if someone doesn't have the patience to wait out a ps1 firs gen length load time then they need to find a new hobby. :smt019 maybe i just have more patience than most.....
Well waiting 20-30 seconds just to play the next round of a fighting game is a bit to much for me or loading a level that takes 45+ seconds is also a but much for me, but then aggain i'm not a patient person :smt023
IMO the only reason to own them is for the games with CD-only-extras, which would still only appeal to a certain few. I'm a very patient person, but in a fighting game? Over 5 seconds of waiting per round is extremely aggravating... Last year I stopped playing PSX all together because of the loading I feel like a bad person because of it though hah.
All this hating on Neo CD tut tut. Ok, so you shouldnt play KOF95 - 99 or Last Blades, apart from that you laughing, the soundtracks are my fave on any system, and cheap most of the time, not to mention RGB that kills AES video display. I had my AES for 2 weeks after owning my CD for 8 years, i tried Sam Spirits 2 and the picture was terrible compared to CD, the soundtrack, while still great was untennable after the cd orchestral/rock glory, a true must Not that i dislike AES, im just a cd console whore
