Just bought a NeoGeo CD top loader (Japanese)
It's still in the mail but I have some questions about the bios.

What package is used for the bios in this system?
Is it ROM or can I erase it and write to it?

If I can't write to it, what (if any) chip is compatible with a similar pinout?

    Thanks

Nice get. I have a top loader and still enjoy it (while loads are not MVS/AES instant, I really don't find them that crazy past what we use to put up with on ps1).

Anyways on unibios maybe check out this video.

That guy on Neo-Geo.com forums makes an adapter called the NeoBiosMasta. His website is here: https://www.neogeofanclub.com/

It looks like he doesn't offer the CD NeoBiosMasta for sale on his website. You may want to PM him on the Neo-Geo forums to see if he still makes them.

The manual way of installation is difficult and ugly. You have to remove the old surface mount chip and solder a bunch of wires to a DIP socket. Be advised the pinout is not the same. Here's the website with the unibios download and more info: http://unibios.free.fr/cdsystem.html

You sure the pinout isnt the same? Guess il have to try making my own adeapter for the wondermega.
The idea is kind of the same thou. Im not a master of roms and eeproms. Just wondering whats stopping one from using the same chip used in starfox conversions and other snes games, and a similliar small adapter? Would have been a snug fit.

I started my own thread but got no response. Kind of sorry for highjacking this one. It seems simillar enough tho.

There's no reason someone couldn't make an adapter. I've offered to do it for the cdx/multimega if someone wants me to mod one and doesn't mine waiting while board is made

no way there are only Dip packages to replace this chip??!

The original looks like a pretty beefy SOP package
does anyone know the part number of the dip you are meant to use?

There isnt a sop replacement, the originals are too narrow.

    Edit:

    Programmable* sop replacement
