i have started to have problems with my sega neptune i have had it for two years them suddenly 32x carts and megadrive carts games are not booting up but the TV is picking up a signal from the Neptune but only showing a black screen. i just had a thought and i was wondering if it is the 7085 voltage regualtor and filter capaciter thats causing the problem would some replacement parts solve it or is my neptune dead?
I think we need some pictures of this for sure @BLUamnEsiac I would actually love for this to be legit though. EDIT: It's a MD/Genesis with a 32x modded in it for anyone who sees this.
I would start and verify all the wires connecting the 32x to genesis are still making good contact. While you are in there, go over the caps too and look for any of them that are bulging. With this forum you shouldn't reference this as a neptune ;-)/
guys, please don't be a dick to the new people (if you've already checked the connections then i would check and see if the 32X is getting power and plz don't go crazy with the hot glue gun on your next project)
It's not being a dick. Just as that's not a Neptune. If you want help with something, describing it accurately is the very first step. It's a mega drive with a 32x modded internally.
Call it a sudo neptune, and yes Check the caps. You would be surprised how often this is the issue in recent years. My super gameboy 2 stopped working recently and after reflowing every chip and checking every trace the caps were the only thing I hadn't tried and usually this is the problem. They just don't last forever.
Some quite ironic behaviour here... Anyhow... ATK64, you'll most likely need larger and more infocus pictures for someone to help you out.
oh i forgot to mention i did not do this mod i had neptune combo for a couple of years you see i tried cleaning the cartridge slot and ribbion cables and got no response from plugging game cartridge in if it is the caps or voltage regulator where could i get replacement parts for them
Can you not test the capacitor and voltage regulator? Thats what I'd first do. Then check for broken/bent pins on the AV/RF cables.
Testing capacitors is mostly a wasted effort. To accurately test them, you need to remove them. If you are removing them, you might as well replace them. I find its only worth testing them if you work on a piece of equipment a lot and want to find the ones that commonly fail.
