I think this is the most appropriate forum for this topic  I'm aware that Nintendo changed the plugs and power requirements for different region NES/Famicom and SNES/Super Famicom consoles, my question is what are the exact dimensions of the plugs used on the official NES and SNES adaptors? I know that the PAL NES and PAL SNES uses a standard 2.5mm barrel connector as I took digital calipur measurements of the plug used on the PAL NES-002/NES-002EU adaptor:- http://nfggames.com/forum2/index.php?topic=3881.msg26276#msg26276 What im hoping is if someone can do the same for the other region power adaptors, namely the following official adaptor models:- - HVC-002 for Famicom and Super Famicom - NES-002 for US NES - SNS-002 for US SNES I just need someone with a digital caliper to measure the following three measurements:- - Barrel outside diameter - Barrel inside diameter (Or pin diameter in the case of SNS-002) - Barrel length I'm only looking for the dimensions of the official adaptors plugs, not third party adaptors since they might not be exactly the same. I think I already know what the plug sizes will be, but I just want a proper confirmation - especially since most people just seem to guess by eye, or base their measurements of other peoples forum posts OH: Thanks in advance for any help
Why go to all the effort? The SNES uses Power Tip R, both Maplin (UK) and Radio Shack (US) sell these, it 6.9mm with a 0.7mm tip (commonly called 7mm by 1mm) the NES, Famicom and SFC use Power Tip G, 5.5mm with a 2.5mm hole. The NES (UK and US) and SNES (UK) uses Tip G at 9V AC at around 850ma (although more is fine), where as the SNES (US) uses Tip R at 10V at 850ma (although 9V at 1A is fine too) with a Negative Tip. The Famicom and SFC use Power Tip G at 9V at 1A with a Negative Tip, you can use a Megadrive / Genesis PSU on these with no ill effects.
Actually the Famicom and Super Famicom likely use a 2.1mm barrel connector, and the European NES and SNES (and likely US NES) use a 2.5mm barrel connector. You can see the different pin sizes in this comparison picture from the thread I linked in my first post:- http://pici.se/pictures/bMYjUpXis.jpg (Super Famicom on the left, European SNES on the right) I really appreciate your reply, and I dont mean any offence, but the above sort of error is the exact reason why I want to clarify for certain what the plug sizes are. I realise some people might see this an unimportant, but it interests me and I hope to to add the info to the gamesx wiki so I want to make absolutely sure the info is correct and not half-guessed. ...I did put in the first post:-
