I recently plugged my American slot loading NES in for the first time in a few years and found that I had to max out my amp just to hear it at normal levels. I've tracked down the problem to some very fluffied capacitors inside the shielded A/V+power box. Figured someone else might benefit from the list I came up with for the caps inside. Mobo --------- C1 - 1uF 50v C9 - 2.2uF 50v C23 - 1uF 50v A/V board --------- C21 - 2200uF 25v C23 - 100uF 25v C25 - 100uF 10v C29 - 1uF 50v C35 - 1uF 50v C36 - 10uF 16v The ceramic caps seem to be fine and only the electrolytics have failed. Honestly I didn't check which caps were audio related only and am just going to repalce every cap as they're at least as old as I am and will fail sooner or later. NOTE: This is a listing for MY NES and only MY NES, I don't know if there are any variations on these. Enjoy!
Shouldnt C1 be 100uf 6.3V? Mobo (FRG) --------- C1 - 100uF 6.3V C9 - 2.2uF 50v C23 - 1uF 50v A/V board (FRG) ALPS --------- C21 - 2200uF 25v C25 - 100uF 10v C23 - 100uF 25v C29 - 1uF 50v C35 - 1uF 50v C1 - 10uF 16V C36 - 10uF 16V
There is going to be slight differences between the NTSC and PAL based NES machines as well as different revisions, but the majority of them are the same.
