http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7nkfXA8RI5Y&feature=player_embedded I followed above video and looks like when i turn on my NES all i get is a gray screen. Did i kill my NES? i have a feeling when i cut the lock-out chip... I screwed it up..
I get a grey screen on mine when the cart connections are going (which is basically all the damn time). Clean the cartridges and connector and try again.
If the screen isn't blinking it seems the lockout chip is already deactivated. Are you sure the cartridge socket is clean and it has no bent pins? If the NES wored before cutting the pin (at least with some games) check if the pin you cut or what remains of it in the board isn't touching anything else. If you cut the wrong pin there's a good chance you can just re-solder it with a small wire and then cut the right pin.
If the screen is just solid gray, that means most likely the lockout chip is disabled or the cartridge lockout chip is making a solid connection preventing reset. But most likely the software has crashed because of read errors due to dirty contacts or some other fault. As it was suggested, you should try cleaning your connectors on both the system and cartridges.
or you may need a new 72 pin connector they are easy as pie to install and clean your games before you put them into the new cart slot because you dont want that to get dirty also
I had the same thing happen to me: Gray screen. Cut the pin, cleaned the latin, checked the connector: Nothing helped: This was the only NES so far that I was not able to repair.
Things you might want to check: 6116 RAM chip that connects to the 2A03 chip. The 2A03 chip itself. The 74LS139 chip that does the memory mapping. An "odd" but useful check is put an input from an audio amplifier on one of the data lines of the 2A03 CPU to see if it's running.
I'm getting a solid gray screen too. Lockout chip has been disabled, 72 pin connector replaced, games cleaned with brasso and rubbing alcohol, capacitors replaced, voltage regulator replaced. I think it's dead. I tried everything. Any help would be appreciated. It's an NES-CPU-07 board, if that helps at all. I refuse to give up on this one.
