    Hi guys

I am using a NTSC NES with region lock pin cut/disabled.

Playing a PAL version of Mega Man 2, and as you can see on the photo, there is a lot of noise on the screen.

Machine is connected via standard rca cables to the tv, but I dont think it should be this bad. Its quite noticeable and distracting.

Can something be done about this, is there noise suppressing capacitor that might need replacing?

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

I'll throw this out there: if the caps are original it won't hurt to replace them but I'm not enough of a NES expert to tell you if they're the issue here.

OP said he's playing a PAL game on an American NES. Isn't that a problem regarding video output or does the NES handle that differently.

The noise is >1 MHz (so it's signal switching noise, not power noise), probably capacitively coupled via PCB traces to the video output from the PPU. There isn't necessarily an easy way to get rid of it without reworking the board. Replacing capacitors shouldn't make a difference, adding a capacitor to shunt noise might (PPU's /RESET signal maybe). It also might help to pull up the video pin and point to point wire it if you see parallel traces between the video pin and the PNP output buffer.

    Thanks for the feedback guys.

So, I guess I will leave it as is.

This is a common problem on all NES models?
