I checked the continuity this morning. ALl pins except 2-9 and 14-17 had continuity to the header pins. I just pulled the PPU out of the NESRGB. Later today, I'm going to put it in the socket & see how that behaves.

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's a dead PPU. I completely removed the NESRGB today, reflowed all of the connections on the motherboard socket, & put the PPU in the socket. Still getting the garbled graphics via composite :(. I'm guessing I ruined it while removing it from the motherboard since I was impatient I tried to do it with solder wick & a soldering iron + desoldering pump. I've got a couple more NES' coming in this week & a proper desoldering iron now so hopefully I'll be able to steal a PPU from one of those & fix this guy up! Thanks for the help!

Final update - Sorry for the spam! I started looking more closely at the board and discovered a trace that looked a little rough. Traced the lead & sure enough, no continuity. Wired a tiny cable to the two vias and it worked like a charm! Thanks for the help!

There you go! I'm glad that you finally found where the continuity error was. It's difficult to trace these down sometimes because everything LOOKS great to our human eyes, but to the machine, something is amiss. Now you'll have other Nintendos to mod instead of cannibalize.

    Congrats on figuring it out!
