It's been a loooong time sing I screwed around with PS1 stuff, so I figured I'd ask.

Got a Japanese Net Yaroze that's having issues. Sometimes it just stops spinning games. There's a clicking noise that comes from the drive. Usually like 2 clicks and then it stops spinning the disk. Sometimes FMV is jumpy and audio is jumpy as well. It doesn't always boot the disk, 50% of the time it doesn't even see it.

Is this just a bad drive? And if so, can anyone point me in the direction of a place that sells replacements? (I guess I could get one off Yahoo, now that I think about it).

    Seriously... no dice?

Well, then I'll replace the drive and let you know what happens.

Sounds like the laser unit is on its way out.

Try turning the console upside down (after putting the disk in) - was a common temp fix (until it completely died) for PS1's over here.

    Until you replace it, obviously.

I totally forgot about the upside down thing! Thanks! And I'll be replacing the drive as well. Sony made it so (relatively) easy to replace... it's almost like they knew...
