Thanks for the info BTW, sounds nice for a 3-cell battery, I was thinking about getting one for me as soon as I get the money. However I don't know yet if I'll get the 3-cell model or I'll spend 50 more bucks and go for the 6-cell one...
I get a little over 1.5 hrs with everything turned on, full brightness, volume etc doing videochat. Using the "ECO mode" at least 2.5 hrs but crap is slow!
Decided to get an Acer Aspire One mainly as it has one of the nicer keyboards, the 900HA keyboard was too tiny and the space bar was too short meaning that the alt key got in the way and the 940 and 1000 were too large. Bought a 120GB model as I normally stick things like video files on an external hard drive and don't install large programs. However got home and the case was warped so it wobbled on the desk, took it back within 2 hours and they gave me a replacement, I noticed that the replacement was the 160GB hard drive version which was $40 more expensive but they didn't seem to notice despite the two reciepts having two different prices, the manager was talking to the shop assistant and I thought ah he is bound to notice as he had to sign it off, but he didn't so I got a nice upgrade for nothing.
Some of the 120gb models are reported to actually have 160gb drives. It's just luck of the draw I think. Also, if any of you with Aspire Ones suddenly have a blank screen (as in, the machine powers on but nothing comes up), then you have a corrupt BIOS. I figured I'd mention it since it happened to mine and I had to fix another one yesterday. Reflash the BIOS and all will be well. One more thing: SSD's are totally worth the upgrade. I'd wait for prices to fall a bit more if you're interested, but the only thing it doesn't beat a conventional hard drive in is size and price. My fan barely turns on anymore because this thing doesn't put off any heat.
the 160gb is an official model now, they first started appearing in september, actually, i haven't seen a 120gb around in quite some time. All the big box stores are selling 160gbs now.... Here's the link to the bios recovery, saved my ass several times: http://macles.blogspot.com/2008/08/acer-aspire-one-bios-recovery.html Ryan
Odd. I knew the two models were separate (I bought a 160gb), but I thought they were phasing out the 160 in favor of the 120, since that's all I've seen lately. Maybe it's different up there in Canadia. I'm really torn on if I want to sell my Aspire One and buy a Wind or the newer 10.1 inch Aspire One. I'm considering selling it to a coworker who probably needs it more than me, but I've become kind of attached to the little guy.
