Just curious, which streaming service are you guys currently using (and paying for)? I'm testing out Netflix this month and find the variety to be relatively good for the $8.00/month price. What about Hulu Plus? Or what other alternatives are comparable in price/selection (ie: Blockbuster @ Home, Vudu, etc)?
I use Netflix and Amazon VOD. I have an amazon prime account already and there's a lot of movies/shows for free streaming.
^This. Netflix is pretty much the bee's knees, and Amazon Prime fills in the gaps a lot of the time. The free two-day shipping is nice, too.
I have an Amazon prime account and Hulu Plus. To be honest though, all I'm watching on Hulu at the moment is the 80s knight Rider.
I have a Netflix account and I use it quite a bit. They have a huge selection. I've been thinking about getting a Hulu Plus account because they have new shows in HD. I'd be curious to hear other people's experiences with the service.
I have netflix, tried hulu plus and amazon prime. With Amazon prime selection was a bit of a mixed bag (but might be cause I was doing trial or cause its thrown as an extra for signing with that service), with hulu it was good for new shows but for old I got more bang for my buck with netflix.
Amazon VOD has a decent amount of freebies for being a Prime member. I've only paid for a digital rental twice. Haven't used Hulu a whole lot.
In my experience, if you have Netflix, Hulu is superfluous. Amazon Prime seems to fill in some of the gaps, too. If you have to pick one, I say go with Netflix. I had all three for a while, and Hulu just didn't have enough exclusive content to justify the cost.
Obviously I wouldn't know, because Europeans apparently can't get a streaming video service that doesn't completely suck. Does Netflix still have physical movies? That decision to start renting them out as "Qwikster" was pretty laffo. Wonder why it was never realized?
Yeah, they still have that. There was such a customer backlash on the name change that I am sure that had something to do with it.
My family and I use Netflix primarily. It's not bad, but flaw I really hate about is that you can't search movies based on actors. I mean, if I or my folks recall a movie they watched before and loved but only remember the actors (say Clint Eastwood), how's it gonna let me find without the name? It's very inconvenient. I don't want to have to spend five minutes on Wikipedia looking up on the actors portfolio and finally finding it. I shouldn't have to do that.
So, I used http://www.unblock-us.com/ to make myself a US Netflix account, and have to say I'm both disappointed and pleased. Disappointed because I doubt most of the movies they have to stream aren't exactly on anyone's list of favorite movies. Pleased because it seems like a great way to watch all the movies I probably don't like enough to buy on Blu-Ray, and surely I'd do that if I really liked a movie, because the video quality is...maybe equal to DVD at best. The interface is completely awful though, there's no reason you should have to go to a 3rd party website just to find stuff. I also checked out Hulu and while they do have a great selection of TV shows, their movie library seems to be pretty sad.
Netflix over here is Quickflix, and I've checked out their library and it sucks. Anything else I haven't tried. I've near liked streaming anyway so it doesn't bother me.
That not true man you can totally look up actors to find a film. Each actor has a page with the films he or she appear in that Netflix offers. Films are listed seperatly under streaming or disc, listed chronologically.
I don't know what you're talking about - there are tons of good movies on Netflix. There's a huge selection, so if you haven't found something yet it might be worth looking some more. You also get recommendations based on the movies/TV shows you watch and rate. As for the video quality being equal to DVD, that may be true of SD stuff, but some material is in HD (mostly 720p, I think), and that definitely looks better than a DVD.
Since I wrote that post I've found a ton of movies to watch, but it doesn't help that the interface is so awful. Why couldn't they just show me a list of movies from a certain genre, instead of a few covers you can slllloooooooowwwwly scroll though? I've also watched a few HD movies, and they do look decent, but the quality doesn't exactly blow me away since I'm used to Blu-Rays. A lot of the movies aren't on HD anyway, even Captain America wasn't and that's brand new.
