    Hello everyone,

I just bought myself a New 3DS XL Hyrule Edition, I really like how it looks :)

Problem is, when I open it the hinges are making some noise - I'm not talking about the "click" to keep the screen in place. You can heard it on this video (you should raise the volume):

In this video, some people have the same problem, others don't.
Since I ordered it on Amazon, I was pondering to return it.

Is it something that gets better (or worse!) over time?
    Thanks.

You should probably give a call to Nintendo to see if the system is still under warranty if you're that worried. Their customer service is heads above shoulders than Sony or Microsoft.

Mine only makes clicks on 3 positions where it locks in, no other noises when moving the screen.

It's definitely too tight, the hinges are probably off by a tiny amount that cause rubbing and binding of the plastic.

Eventually the hinges will rip out.

Take a plastic bag and cut it into strips. put it into the hinge gap like dental floss and see if the noise stops. If it does, then
the plastic is rubbing / hinge alignment issues. It should make zero noises like that imho.

Big problem is you have a collectible system, so if the paint wears away from use, you'll be upset.
If it was a normal one, I would just keep using it.

    Thanks for your answers.
I just bought it, so I won't try anything and just ask for a replacement - I'll keep you updated on this :)

I received the replacement 3DS two days ago: I can still hear some noise (around 5 ticks) until the screen is open at a 45 degree angle, after it's completely silent.
It's definitely better than the first one, but not 100% perfect. Now I hesitate to ask for another return until I get a perfect one, with the risk to receive one with worse hinges

To give you an update: I called Amazon to see if I could ask for a second replacement. It's not possible, their policy is to refund me and stop to sell it while they check if it's a general issue for this product.

Then I called Nintendo: they told me it shouldn't make a noise while I open it, though it's new so it might go away in the future. And to go to a video games store to have an opinion from a seller.

So I preferred to leave it like that and keep it, I won't use it intensively.
