Check this out: http://www.megadrive-portable.de/ dunno if it´s been here before, thing looks quite nice though. Not so bulky. I could get one for 30Euros, should I bother? And - if anyone knows this already - any chance to modify it to accept standard MD carts? (i.e. solder in a cart slot)
Interesting. Seems to be aimed at the German market. I'll keep my eyes open when I go shopping the next time.
They've bene posted here a bit before. Sadly it does not play Mega Drive Games. It's Sega Master System / Game Gear Games. -- edit -- Actualy I am wrong on this. This does support mega drive games. Which is odd since every time I saw this exact device the game list was SMS games. Hmm.. I wonder how good the lcd is (if it's rock solid, I want one).
If I can get my hands on one I'll open it up and see about a cart slot mod. Does anyone know where those of us in North America can purchase them?
D'oh... I guess it pays to look around a bit. Thanks for the link though. It just dawned on me that if this could be modded to accept genesis carts then it could be the poor mans Nomad. I'm guessing that there isn't really any place to attach the cart slot on the main board. I'll order one next week when I get paid and have a look though. Overall it may be easier to just add a few hundred roms to it.. although that might be a bitch in and of itself.
I imagine you could add a cartridge slot, but you've gotta work out how you are going to modify the case and all that to fit the slot. Wiring is probably the easier part. I had a Nomad once and it's a neat system but not very practical. The screen quality isn't very good for these days. The system is basically a brick and not very nice to hold. Now if you took something like the PSP and used that console design as a Nomad 2 it would kick ass. Really big LCD though one that doesn't have any ghosting issues preferably. And a 6 button layout opposed to 4. You might actually be able to mod a PSP into a portable Genesis if you used one of those GoaC deals.
