I pretty much don't go to arcades any more, they're all about 10-second games that eat your dollars with the promise of tickets... But this one was very close to were the missus and I were staying on holiday, so we checked it out. What I saw nearly brought tears of joy to my eyes. DOOT DO DOOT DOO DOOT-DOOOOOOOOOOOOOO 8 PLAYER DAYTONAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!! There may yet be hope for the human race...
If I ever become a millionaire THIS is what I would get on my house. Not a chintzy car collection, or a bigass pool, but a deluxe pneumatic 8-player Daytona arcade. Its been years since I last saw one, and it was just 4P
Perhaps you and I aren't so different after all. But I'd also require a complete Model 3 collection. Especially a huge ass VF3 Cab.
Is that build of Daytona based upon the recent XBOX Live version? It seems to be in true wide screen. Sure would explain why Sega put more effort in to the Daytona port using first party staff unlike all their other conversions to "HD".
No, these are regular 50' projection TVs. The "HD work" was released in arcades as Sega Racing Classic. Then Sega managed to get the rights to release the PSN and XBLA ports.
I would get some other crazy shit too like a 4K laser projector to watch orthodox jewish porn, but then again I need a big house to have my own arcade room. The irony is that outside the USA most people don't know what the fuck NASCAR is, but they do know what Daytona is thanks to Sega. Those greedy ass rednecks didn't get that.
I saw this at a local arcade, it looks like they reused the guns from that last alien game http://www.giantbomb.com/paradise-lost/3030-27854/
Yeah thats the regular U.S. 8 player linked release. Some leftover arcades here in the U.S. still have this setup including cameras shaped like movie cameras that show your face on the tv screen while playing at top for fun. I think when this setup first came out it was used at some arcades to win prizes when they had tournaments.
I worked at an acrade for 9 months. Modern arcades suck balls... I can't blame them though, most people would rather get a ticket for 10s of watching a wheel, than 10min of gaming for fun. But I have plenty of interesting stories...
The arcade in the Korona World Cinema in Kokura, Kita Kyushu has an 8 player OutRun 2 set up just like that Daytona one but with hydrolic cabinets shaped as cars. Great fun but not cheap to play.
Yeah, I've seen a Daytona one like that, too. I've also seen Sega Super GT (Scud Race) cabs like that, though I think they were only 2 player. I love arcades, even modern ones. They're not very common these days, so I try to go whenever I have a chance. There are no dedicated arcades where I live now, but there is a bowling alley that has some cool games like House of the Dead and Starblade. I really like Gameworks. I used to think they were kind of a ripoff, but I've decided that I like them because they tend to have a really nice selection, and they keep their games in really good condition, unlike most places. The Gameworks in Fort Lauderdale, FL was the first and only time I ever played Virtua Fighter 3 in an arcade. It began my decade+ long quest to play it again.
