Ok so I've toyed around with Superguns and last Friday decided to dive in and get an actual cabinet. I bought it off a local operator who was winding up business, and took the day off work just to receive it. It was hell lugging it up to my apartment, but was well worth it when I fired up the S-TV. The cabinet is good, but quite dirty - -Numerous Scuffs on the shell (shoe scuff marks) -The insides are coated with dust and grime -The coin mech has been removed, along with the locks to the board and coin doors. -The control panel locks have been opened, but I do not have the keys to lock it. -Fluorescent tube on the marquee backlight is out -Some Sticker residue on the bottom of the screen I've already decided to get a new control panel and sticks, but can anyone give me some pointers on how clean it up a bit?
Just how thorough do you want to be? The whole unit splits down into 4 main sections. Control panel upper, Monitor surround, then once you remove the monitor you can pull the front and back apart. However, the screws holding it all together (front and back) are a pig and tightly stuck in most instances. What I'd suggest is not going to the length of taking it completely to bits, but using "Magic Eraser" and washing up liquid to gently clean various parts. You'll frequently find genuine parts available on Arcade Otaku forum, including original control panels. With you being in Australia it's going to be costly shipping wise, so perhaps keep an eye on Yahoo Japan or ask around on various forums for Australian cab owners. The New Astro City cabinets are fantastic and one of the most robust, beautifully built etc. If you do decide to give the full thing a damned good clean / repsray etc then you can get reproduction artwork. There is a guy on Arcade Otaku (FrancoB) who makes amazing repro marquee holders. It's worth it!
Does the marquee accomodate an A4 sheet? I just bought an Egret 2(.5, based on the description in your thread Parris - no rotate mech but tri sync monitor) and it has the marquee so I was thinking of just putting a misc image in there until I get a kit or two. That's one sexy Astro Parris.
That' quite a clean cabinet you have there Parris. I found the control panels for sale at http://www.highway.net.au/parts/machine_parts/6022.html Is this a good price? (In Aud) or can they be had for cheaper?
The CP (Metal plate) is £30 from AGS here in the UK. It's the same as a Naomi CP. The Astro overlay is nigh on impossible to obtain, but reproductions exist that cost roughly £30-40 The Sticks would be approximately £30-40 each meant a pair Buttons are approximately £1.50 each Wiring about £20 So all in all, when all is said and done that's not a bad price for something brand new and it looks like genuine overlay (perhaps an authentic repro from Sanwa). You might be able to obtain a used one for less, but then again it's trying to find one and it being in mint condition. My overlay alone cost £50.
Really? Glad I'm buying my sticks in Taiwan for about 12 quid each (yes proper Sanwa sticks...) Most operators remove the locks to arcades as they tend to use a single key for the same type of cabinets...The coin mech also tends to be useful and is probably the most valuable part to an operator that is still using machines (of any type...).
that is a nice cabinet, the arcade i have is only black and big of UMK3... but very nice arcade you got there , i like it alot ..
