Ok, my friend just got a new car. He has upgraded from his old junker :-D to a sweet ride.

I now want an upgrade. Currently I drive 1997 POS Civic EX, that is very reliable and in pretty good shape. I'm not a major fan of any brand of car, but lean towards certain models.

Here are some idea's I had:

2001-02 Honda S2000 - Can be had for 20k and change with warranty - A fun and fast car that has lots of upgrade potential

2000-02 Subaru Impreza WRX - Also can be had for around 20k with warranty - Great handling and loads of upgrade potential

The above cars would involve me selling my current automobile privately. Unfortunately, dealers won't give good trade in credit for this model and year.

I was also throwing around the idea of getting something cheaper to work on and keep my car as a daily driver.

    A project car idea:

1993-95 Toyota MR2 (non turbo) - Not really cheap, but can be had for $3500-$7000 depending on condition and mileage. This also has the 3SGE, same core as the 3SGTE Turbo models.

    Any ideas or thoughts?

    The choice.

Well I'd ask you this: How well equipped are you to handle a project?
Do you have the requisite garage space and tools? Most importantly do you have the time? If you answer yes to all these I'd start my new obsession! =)
If not I must say the S2000 is the car I MOST want to buy right now...
    BUT!
I would NOT get a 2001! The rear window is PLASTIC! In a 2002 the rear window is GLASS and you won't get that same feeling of cheapness... well that's my opinion anyway... then again it's your money, if the plastic rear window doesn't bother you then fine... but me? Sounds stupid but it'd drive me crazy!
