I agree, I switched back and forth with the PS3 and 360 during its early days but now I soley stick with the PS3, Sony's done a great job at picking up from the mess they left during the PS3's launch and there's alot of great exclusives out there... I moreso like it for the fact that its import freindly, online is free and its controller which just feels right for a wide variety of genres. To me the Xbox 360 is just an FPS powerhouse, and while Xbox Live is a better service I hate the fact that I have to pay for it and use the MS Points system... not to mention Microsofts been pretty weak as far as exclusives go... unless you're into the Kinect... As for Nintendo, I just don't find the Wii U appealing at all apart from its first party titles, but even then it feels very rehashed... I think I'll stick to my N64/SNES for the time being, although the 3DS is looking pretty appealing for me at the moment with a great line up of exclusives going for it.
Xbox 360 has pretty much all the "shmups" exclusives so it gets my vote. I dont care as much for the SP3 exclusives. But well, thats not really the point of this thread i guess. To me modern consoles are more boring than older ones, and one reason for this is that the hardware istself is not as distinguishable from one console from the next. I mean, all current gen console use full digitized audio, they all display in the same resolution, they all display more colors than the eye can see. Back in the 8/16bit days and even with the early 32 bit consoles, they all had a different feel.
I don't know if it's because I've grown up or the industry has, but I feel that the games in the current generation have been pretty unimaginative. When it comes to gaming, I am pretty much stuck in the 1985-2005 area. I can barely bring myself to care about much outside of that.
That's not what modding is about dude. In many cases the best mods are created by large dedicated teams doing a complete rework of the original game; essentially creating brand new games. These days mods represent 50% of the best games around, so you'd be seriously limiting your experience by simply disregarding them without even having played any, especially with a high spec PC just sitting there. Madness, but your choice, of course.
The current generation consoles is boring just with the simple fact that every game feels generic. Every FPS, 3rdps and action adventure all feel generic is like playing the same game with a little twitch in the story and different skin. The developers dont want to risk making new ideas of gameplay and stories they just stick to the same formula because it sells. Also the ps3 fanboys and the xbox fanboys will always defend their consoles I dont know why non of the companies pay them but that is a never ending war. The quality of the games has decrease a lot we need a new video game crash to start again. Nothing like the good old days of Sega and Nintendo risking their lives to bring us games that change our lives without dlc and online. Sony may have more exclusive but those never last in generations, they are quickly forgotten in time. Now tell me how many people forgot a panzer dragoon, zelda, metroid, thunderforce, starfox. This generation does not have any game that will be remember trough time.
Yes that the same thought as mine. Xbox360 is just not great to be honest. Only game I like on 360 is Project Gotham racing 4 and that it. About xboxlive which most says it better but I can't see the difference between PSN. I been using PSN nearly seven years now and online experience is great especially online on resistance fall of man.
I know exactly what mods can do. If I can survive playing console over the years then I sure the mods is not important to me. Again you can mods some in games to make it better in PS3 if it has custom firmware. There is official mod add on for UT3 on PS3. Maybe on PS4 can allowed mod s in the future. Never less I can't see that mods play in big roll in games matter.
I've loved most nintendo systems. I never really liked the wii. I think the Wii U (if it gets some new games out) Can be a great step to getting back in the market. I've been loving most of the 3DS's games (Thanks Atlus) and the DS was also pretty fun as well. Pretty much my thoughts on nintendo in a nut-shell. Sony I've also loved. The PS1 has some of the best RPG's I've played to date. PS2, can't say much as I haven't really touched base with it yet. I've also just gotten my PS3 and I can't wait to start getting some more games for it.
Meh, I have to agree, Sony showed nothing except some stupid touchpad gimmick and a couple of sequels to some average franchises, while also touting Facebook sharing and connectivity to a dying handheld (who cares?), Microsoft just concentrated on showing everything but games, and apparently a big selling point in their minds in watching TV through Xbox (who cares?). I haven't got any hope for Nintendo at this point, their current games don't interest me in the slightest. It's pretty sad to consider how many interesting first and second party games, as well as third party exclusives, they had in the GameCube era, but by the time the Wii came along, they had pissed them away by either losing exclusivity, losing the dev team that made them, or just plain doing nothing with them! Eternal Darkness, Rogue Squadron, Geist, Baten Kaitos, F-Zero, the "Capcom five", Conker...all, and probably some others too, gone without much to replace them. At least some of their more obscure franchises like Custom Robo and Chibi-Robo have seen sequels on portables, which have consistently had a lot of good stuff on them: even though the 3DS had a slow start, its current and upcoming lineup looks a hell of a lot better than the Wii U's. Personally, I don't have any interest in buying a Nintendo console with just their current "autopilot" games on them, like the zillionth version of New Super Mario Bros. with a new hat, Mario Kart, Mario Party and motion control minigame crap.
cannot agree more with this. newest console i own is a gamecube! (and a ds fat, but handhelds dont count ^^)
