Just look at the video embedded in the article: http://www.golem.de/1111/87519.html The collectors edition looks just great, will preorder for sure
I preorder classic and collector edition. Game release pushed to Q2 2011, to 11 11 11, to 22 12 11, to ? I think the release will be in 2012.
The graphics are amazing for an indie game and I'm sure the gameplay is great. But why everybody makes only shmups for dreamcast? why no indie action, beat-them-up, fighting games or even rpgs? How many shmups can dreamcast have more?
I'd say graphics are outstanding. Designers' work is totally great. Maybe... 1. Audience - Dreamcast is already an old-school console, and many of old-school gamers are fans of shmups. When you releasing some game for console which is officially "dead" you may very want to sell it very well. 2. Not too hard for programming (in comparison with RPG, for an example), not so limited area for imagination too.
Well the L.E box looks spiffy , but with it being a 2d shmup I can't seem myself playing it over the millions of other Space shmups.
That's exactly what I meant - there are too many 2D shmups already, especially in this cosmic futuristic style. I do like the art, but I really wish someone made a different type of game or at least a different 2D shooter for dreamcast.
Well if you look at all commercially released (and soon to be released) Dreamcast homebrew games, you will find plenty of non-schmups. As you can see in the list below, there are only 5 schmups (out of 13 commercial homebrew releases for Dreamcast) 1 - Cool Herders (Puzzle-ish) 2 - Dux (schmup) 3 - Fast Striker (schmup) 4 - Feet of Fury (Rythem) 5 - Gun-Lord (Run-n-gun / Eurostyle Platformer) 6 - Inhabitants (Puzzle) 7 - Irides: Master of Blocks (Puzzle) 8 - Last Hope (schmup) 9 - Last Hope Pink Bullets (schmup) 10 - Maqiupai (Puzzle) 11 - Rush Rush Rally Racing (Race) 12 - Sturmwind (Schmup) 13 - Wind & Water: Puzzle Battles (Puzzle)
I think some of the criticism comes from lumping the indie and commercial releases together. Since 2002, outside of date sims, there were lots of naomi based shooters. Especially from 04-07, that seemed to be all that was released (Trizeal, Chaos Field, Radirgy, Shikigami no Shiro, Under Defeat, Karous, etc). Looking at a figurative list of "new stuff to put in your dreamcast that is not a dating sim," since 2002, the list is simply chock full of shooters.
I wish they'd make something tactical like Vandal Hearts or Shining Force, how hard can that be, its all turn based after all
Lol, RPGs require tons of work: Even if we are talking something sprite based, you still need a megaton load of graphics for characters/scenarios/backgrounds/items/enemies etc. and a big story to keep things interesting.
I'm surprised no-one's thought of porting one or more of the 2D Sonic fan remakes or a collection of them out for the Dreamcast. As these indie/homebrew games don't 'officially' exist the legalities are an extremely grey area that SEGA would be hard pressed to litigate against for copyright infringement. After all, no-one's ever been called to question over the 'Beats Of Rage' games and mods that are all over the net and also on the DC that take elements from the Bare Knuckle games or all the MUGEN hacks and games that are chock full of SNK, CapCom, Arc Systems and other companies copyrighted characters. Just a thought in case any would be developer is looking in or for someone who knows a man who knows a man ;-)
Well, Sega shut down the Streets of Rage fan remake that was free to download, just imagine if someone tried to sell their own Sonic games for profit...
