After taking apart my NR and NPDP cubes, I've discovered that it is possible to wire the country mod switch in the gamecube to the optical interface board with no jumper removal.

Whether this applies to a retail GC, we'll have to see.

I'll let you know as this progresses and I'll add pics here as I progress.

If this works out like I think it will, it mean a five minute mod instead of the laborious mod you have to do normally.

Would be awesome if we finally had a PAL switch mod... not holding my hopes up though...

    Kev,

If it works on an NR box it'll work on a retail cube. The original country mod was found by opening up an NR box with the switch and comparing it to a retail box.

  5. I would be amazingly greatful if you were to discover an easier version of region modding a GC. Upon the arrival last week of my bargain priced Shikigami No Shiro 2 box set ($20 shipped), I was dismayed to find that the Freeloader disc that I bought while still borrowing my roommate's Cube will not work on the newer model of Gamecube that had no digital out port. I've been tempted to put mine through the mod process, but can never work up the nerve to try with contact points that tiny.
