Saw a new games magazine on sale at Gamestop yesterday. It's called "Hardcore Gamer" and while they're trying to emulate the core principles behind GameFan and the ill-fated GamesGo mags I feel they have a ways to go in that regard. First up, the onlyl recognizeable member of the staff is Terry Wolfinger, many will remember him as being the art guy for the older issues of GameFan and the 1 issue of GamesGo. Sorry folks, no Eric Mylonas (ECM) or any of the other GameFan regulars. The layout is pretty basic and whole mag just seemed very dull and uninteresting to me. Whether or not this new venture becomes successful is anyone's business, but I just can't see a mass-market mag tailored to hardcore gamers doing well in this day and age.
