There is now a model 2 available that is more compact and no longer needs any game carts inserted. New sleek design: New menu screen (notice the FC game icon meaning you can play nes games ) 1 But best of all there is now a firmware upgrade that allows you to run nes roms on it (200 kb max size and no save function yet). Okay tried all my nes roms, games that work: Zelda I Mario bros Metroid Kid iccarus Metal gear Megaman 1 Exite bike Ghost and goblins Castlevania Gauntlet Kung fu Donkey kong Mario bros classic Dr Mario Top Gun Running games of more then 200kb makes the player freeze, i hope they fix it because all good games are 257 or more kb :smt009 Model 1 owners go to www.movieadvance for new movie/music/image conversion software, firmware upgrade and nes game playablity :-D
Same here, now i don't need to go out and buy the famicon classics II range because i can already play metroid and kid iccarus :-D
damn, just after I got my mk.1 movie player :angry And by the way, playing NES roms over +-192kb is probably impossible to implement, because the CF card is not memory-mapped (unlike a cartridge), so the game + emulator has to be loaded into the GBA's work RAM, which is only 256kb. /me is off to caress my GP32 :-D :smt042
GP32 Arg! I would love to get one but after the shipping and duty it wouldn't be worth it and I could probably get a PPC with wifi instead. They really need to find a North American distributor...
Err..It may be a n00b question but here it goes: According to the gba movie player site, I can read e-books, view images, listen to music and so on. My question is... can I do that on a Ez-Flash II ?
antipasta, i also have a mk1 movie player, you can download a new firmware update that alows mk1 owners to play them as well. I do however hope they overcome the memory problem because i really really want to play double dragon , turtles and zelda II on the road.
Not a noob question - you could conceivably do the things you asked about with an EZ-Flash II or any of the other dev carts, but you'd have to track down or code your own image viewer/eBook reader/media player software to run on it, whereas the Movie Player card will just take the media files stored on your CF card and work from there, as it already has the nessicary firmware that allows these things. So unless you already own a flash cart, I'd recommend going with the movie player.
After a lil' bit of poking around I'v found out that you can replace the GBA Movie player pocketnes.gba with the standard pocketnes Emultaor .gba file (which is a few k smaller) and it still works just as good. Makes me wonder though, if it can still be ran like its running from a flash cart, then how come they can't stream teh ROMS however they do it on a flashcart?
That's quite interrresting, i really hope they can overcome those problems i want to play double dragon really badly :smt042
There's a bit of software available for Flashcart users, it's called PoGo shell. It's sort of like an Xbox dashboard, but for the GBA. Should allow you to do most things the movie player does, but on a flashcart. http://www.gameboy-advance.net/gba_roms/pogoshell.htm
Does any1 know why my gba movie player can play nes roms as big as 500kb? Is it because i'm using a ds?
Probably 'cause technology has advanced a bit over the two years time period since this topic was made.
