Has anyone else heard about this? Rob Zombie is doing a remake of the 1978 classic. Comes out on the 31st, and I'm probably going to be one of the first in line to see it. Here's hoping it's good.
Shit, I bet Carrie Fisher will be appearing as a cameo part. Why the need for a god damn remake, it is a classic film. You don't often find a remake that actually adds anything to the original. Witness "Psycho" it was a Hitchcock stunner and then it was remade and looks exactly the bloody same, except in colour.
For some reason I really want to see this. I don't think I've even seen the first Halloween (although I watched H2O a few years back).
You should, it's a classic horror movie. Okay, it is devoid of the same special effects of modern films, but sometimes I get a little tired of great films being remade into something they were never intended. It's akin to George Lucas and his obsessive reworking of Star Wars films. He almost screwed up the first 3 in my opinion by working, working and working to the point that some of the rawness of the film was blended out. To me it is almost like taking a classic book by Charles Dickens and deciding that what you really need are a few gun battles, more blood and a great deal more computer input. I just feel that a good film holds water and retains some form of charm when it is set at a specific time period and not continually revamped just to suit a younger audience who look at 70's clothes and think "this will be shit". Some films you just cannot make any better and Hollywood is obsessive about trying too. It's also annoying when people like Lucas decide for his older audience that the originals will be deleted or never appear on DVD. What happens to the films I remember? What happens to the films I grew up with? What happens to that cultural tie I have with my past? Are people of my age (and one day you'll be mine, if not already) just destined to be expected to catch up with the current trend? "Next week: Fried Green Tomatoes at the whistlestop hypermarket in space!"
I just want to go see it because it looks interesting and I haven't been to the movie theater in awhile I'll check out the original, though. I agree that too much time is spent on reworking/remaking the original film when they need to be left alone. I'd rather see a new, original movie anyway.
Theres some movie called Hatchet that had a bad ass movie poster that basically said screw modern horror films, that might be good.
It was Japanese only, but not that old. You can get really good dubs/subs of Ju-On (The Curse/The Grudge) which are much better than the US remakes in my opinion. The Halloween and the rumored Friday the 13th remakes really irritate me. First, Rob Zombie can do good horror, but he focuses on shock value and gore. I have no problems with squish-fests, but the original Halloween was more about suspense and fear. It just isn't even close to the same, but it will make a fortune because of Zombie's name and cause even more unnecessary remakes in the future.
I just remember seeing Jason killing a guy in some Halloween by pushing on his hands, and the guy suddenly became a manaken (fuck that word) and bent backwards.
True, however Rob Zombie actually knows how to make a good movie. It may be full of more disgusting stuff there for the shock value, but it will probably kick ass nonetheless. That Devil's Rejects movie ruled - I agree I hope this Halloween remake isn't all loud, with guns and bullets and crap flying all over the place. I'll be happy as long as it has a large bodycount and a low cheese factor. That's all you can really ask for in a good horror movie.
I think this movie looks fantastic. Loved the original Halloween, and loved Zombie's previous works. I'm sure he'll change it enough to keep it interesting, while staying true to the original. You gotta keep in mind that Zombie himself is obsessed with horror movies, and Halloween being one of his personal all time favorites. He's not going to fuck it up. That said, my only concern is why the fuck is it coming out in AUGUST instead of, oh, I dunno... October? Say around 2 weeks before Halloween? The only other major release that month is SAW 4, and if I was given a choice between the two, I'd go for the Halloween remake.
Yeah it's my #1 fave horror movie. I was 7 when it came out. Scared the shit out of me. I hear the new one is supposed to have more information about Myers before the killings start. At least that's what I've heard. Not quite a prequel but more info on what drives him. If you've ever read the book (I have) they have a lot more info on that. They take you back to the beginning where the "evil" supposedly starts during a Samhain festival. The book also talks about Myers in the institution as a boy where he killed there as well but was never caught doing it. Stuff like someone crossing him and ending up dead but without any evidence Myers did it. Anyway, it's pretty cool stuff if you like the movies. I always wondered why they didn't talk more about that. Maybe Zombie is going to add that part of it, but it's just a guess.
