I don't know about you but I find the new I.E.7 to be bloody awful. It's always crashing ! Reminds me of the windows '98 days. Anyone else trying out this crap? I also have Fire Fox but to be perfectly honest Fire Fox is a lot slower than I.E. so I'm going back to I.E.6 and using Fire Fox for those sites that don't run under I.E. Yakumo
Reminds me of IE 1 - 6. I think you're doing something wrong. "Fast" isn't how I'd describe anything that Microsoft makes.
nice, I'll try that  I tried Opera once but there's something about it that I don't like. Still, I can get some Opera action from my Wii. Yakumo
IE7 crashes regularly on XP, I guess M$ focused more its attention on making IE7 stable on Vista rather than on XP. I tried it twice on my machine and each time I went back to IE6, Firefox is quite good these days.
I have 0 problems with IE7 on XP actually. I guess its more a 1+1+... problem. Wrong plug-in's, unclean os installation, malware etc?
Not really, I don't customise Windows or have any google toolbar, plugins... The problem still occurs after fresh installation of XP, it's really sluggish at times, shame 'cause I really like it and it works ok @ work on a less powerful machine that my home one. Could be an intel/amd thing...who knows...shouldn't matter though...
Then there's something wrong - Firefox is much, much faster than IE6 - even without the FasterFox extension. Also, I've hardly ever have problems with IE7 crashing (although I don't use it consistently) which points at computer troubles as well. I note that someone I know had issues with Mozilla running horrendously slow and IE6 ran 'buggy', and it turned out his Windows was full of crap. Once it'd had a spring clean, I don't think he's going back to IE again. I recommend a combination of SpyBot, CCleaner, Microsoft Autoruns, and a disk defrag.
Get IEtab for Firefox. Then whenever you need just open a new tab on firefox and click on IEtab. IE under Firefox. Firefox might be a resource hog (although i never noticed it on my jurassic PC), but it's better than IE. Opera is great too.
Well, IE7 has crashed 3 time in the last 5 hours so I'm not using Fire Fox with the plug-ins to speed it up. So far all is going well. I7m quite happy with it up until now. I'll go the whole weekend with just using Fire Fox and see how it goes. It really is a shame with IE7 though. I've been a user of IE since I ever started using a PC. Yakumo
Remember this: You'll end using Firefox like almost everyone of us. IE7 is a lot slower in website loading times than Firefox, it's also buggier (even buggier than Firefox 3.0 beta in my experience!) and the spyware problems are really something... The big deal about Firefox is that it eats lots of RAM, but if you have 512 or higher you'll have no troubles with that
I used to use IE exclusively, but made the switch to Opera about half a year ago. It does crash quite often though (Maybe due to the fact I usually have about 20 tabs open....) It doesn't bother me too much though as opening it again takes me straight back to what I was doing ( unless I was downloading/watching a video..) I much prefer Opera over IE though, makes browsing so much easier.
firefox V2 have a well known memory leak (only in some machines/installs) that can be easily fixed. if your firefox sucks too much memory try to use the fix or even better use the 3.0b3. i'm using it and i'm really PLEASED.
Err, no, IE7 is great! I've almost never had it crash on me! Make sure you're using a GENUINE version of XP, with at least 1Gb RAM, preferably a clean install, fully updated and things should be fine. If you're experiencing crashes, then you've got an underlying problem somewhere. Try using the Event Viewer to get the lowdown on what caused it. I've used IE7 since it came out, with relatively few crashes. I also update EVERY SINGLE repair we have come in to SP2 with IE7, and every build we make. I have literally installed it on hundreds of PCs, and they are all running fine. Those that have come back with problems have been loaded up with spyware and/or viruses... nothing to do with IE. Firefox, on the other hand, I don't like. Yes, it is a memory hog. I'm interested in the patch, would like to try that, but I'm sticking to IE7 on my own machine.
I've been using 3.0 for a long time too now (since the first accidental RC release). I especially like the new password manager and the faster and less cluttered download manager. However the new GUI is horrible, and I hope to see it change.
