I figured it was pretty unanimous that this wasn't a case of a cable coming loose but need a second opinion before my neighbour drops money on a new screen.
As soon as a LCD cracks you cant "repair" it and it needs to be replaced, if you are lucky they do sometimes sell the LCDs' without the backlight , it costs a slight bit less but replacing just the LCD panel is extremely difficult, to get perfect.
Just wanted to get a second opinion before we paid £60 posted for a new one. It would be cheaper but the company only does next day shipping at £9.99 a pop. Pointless considering I could post a screen like that with first class postage for £6 or so and it'd get there within the next day (or so I've found)
Second opinion on if a loose cable caused it to crack? and somehow refitting it could magically repair the REAL physical damage? That don't make any sense guy. Used laptops go so cheap these days, the last person that wanted a quote from me to get them a new one and install it ended up having me remove the entire thing and just used the vga out on a lcd monitor XD Basically if it's out of warranty chances are it's not worth the price of repair unless you snag a cheap laptop of the same model to take your repair parts from.
Not sure what happened to it. Working on it for a neighbour. I have a hunch it was either dropped or from that large blot punched.
I was a laptop technician, this is a broken screen. The colors are caused by a change to the voltage, meaning a break in the material. LCD screens are easy to diagnose..
Bingo. Fortunately laptop screens are *usually* pretty cheap on ebay. I dont think i've ever paid mroe than $200, the average is usually $125
Definitely cracked. A loose cable would relate to a complete colour shift or the screen cutting in and out. You can see quite clearly pressure has been applied to the black spot on the screen, which has caused a fracture line up the screen. Pretty easy thing to fix, on the condition you can find the parts.
