.......lacks a good GPU. I'm looking foward to getting one of these since small notebooks are way easier to lug around. The GPU is a big drawback since is the same from the Macmini. But at least they included a 64MB of internal memory this time, so the RAM issues that mini had shouldnt come up now. So in short, is the same as the Pro in almost every aspect but except for the GPU and smaller screen. Yet it has some improvments over the later, like a smaller AC adaptor. Why I'm picking this one instead of the Pro? well, that one isnt black:110: Going over to the dark side........
I am waiting for the prices to come down a touch on these before thinking of getting one. Also there's the "early adopter" technical issues with anything like this.
You know you end up paying about $150 more just to get it in black right? I'm an apple fan but thats a crazy decision... GPU is a bit of a shame, but I guess it will do...just would have been nice to see a low end Nvidia or ATI chipset in there
Tachikoma apple never lowers the price, they just launch a new version. There's the possibility that you get the old version with a nice discount in some resellers sites, but even then you get an old model. Ah crap and I thought it was optional:crying: Then I'm going to reconsider the Pro. Hope they solve the themal grase issue. Yeah, a X1300 would be better than that GMA...
a friend showed me the macbook today. looks pretty sweet.. and as apple now allows for boot of both osx and winxp I feelt that as soon as one comes out with a dx10 compatible card I'm getting one thought.. dx10 gfx card is probably a few month to a year away..
If you mean another GMA chip then you're right, but if you want a mid/high-end GPU then bad luc: is obvious Apple will keep the ATI/nVidia chips for the Pros in order to avoid competition between those and the new Macbook.
So I went to the apple store near my house today. Well, there was quite a number of people trying to take a look at the new black macbook. I even find a guy who was mad cuz he bought the low-powerbook 2 days before this one came out. I have to say, that while the black MB looks goods in phtos in doesnt in reality. The black plastic is not like the one in the G3 powerbook. Is more like black Gamecube like, which is isnt bad, unless is wrapped around 1300 bucks:-( The screen looks cool thought, the gloss effect is like the one in the DS lite. The main drawback I found is the lack of a backlite keyboard. It really sucks since the keys are kinda opaque, so reading in the dark must be a bitch. Honestly I think I'll wait to the next revision of the MB pro. I bet its going to be available in black too.
Well, I'm planning on getting the 1300 dollar version this summer, if all goes well financially. I'm really impressed by the specs, it's about an iMac... Just hope the videocard is good enough for what I do with it(watching anime and... well that pretty much is all I do so I'm sure it's good enough). Just wondering what the hell they mean with: Windows Office 2004 Test Drive. Is it a program with limited options or something? And why doesn't microsoft make Office for Mac anymore, I don't really like Mac's own Pages to tell you the truth, and I do need a text program.
The GMA is enough for video playback, yet I cant find a reason to pay that much more just for the color and an extra 20GB of HDD. I'm getting the Pro...
Have you checked their sale/refurb section? You can usually get really good deals there on current products if you don't mind buying a refurbed item: http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APP...woa/wo/0.RSLID?mco=26403331&nclm=SpecialDeals
Graphics card will be fine for that Office 2004 test drive is just a demo of office 2004 - 30 days with no lack of features I believe. Office is available for mac, I have it running here. Get the educational version though, theres no checks on you being a student/teacher, plus it gives you 3 licences for about 1/3 the cost of full office. Office isn't however a universal binary yet, so if you get it it will run under rosetta on intellimacs, meaning a slight hit in performance. Pages isn't bad, but it leans more toward the DTP side of things than word processing. I couldn't use it to replace word < Happy Apple user
That dude that enjoys disassembling Macs (sick bastard) already has a Macbook all sprawled out in his site. Here's the link
I read somewhere that people are starting to have problems with the mac book pros and it turns out that the cause of it was that apple applied too much thermal paste. There was a guide that shows you how to open up your mac and locate the area, and then apply the proper amount of paste to get rid of the problem. Apple ended up suing the website... It's on slashdot
Apple already solved the thermal grease problems in the Macbook. BTW, a friend of a friend who works in an apple store told me MacBookPro's just got a speed bump in the CPU and glossy screens free of charge. Suddenly the Pro looks like a better option for me, too bad they dont come in black:crying:
Yep, macbook pros have gone from 1.83-> 2GHz, or from 2GHz->2.16, depending on the model. You can get the glossy screens free as an option - General consensus on the internet is that the Glossy screens aren't as good as an expensive normal LCD, in that they are very reflective, although they do offer better brightness and contrast. With cheaper displays its really a toss up between bright reflective display or non-reflective but less bright display
I can't understand why they would charge so much for one of these other than greed. I was looking on the dell website the other day and I could get an x1400 256MB GPU, 1GB of RAM and a 1.8Ghz CPU, with widescreen for around $800. With the current $-£ exchange rate that is peanuts! How easy is it to run Mac OS on a non-Apple Intel machine these days?
