http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W611l-sel28 Interesting, I wonder how much of Shadow Moses you get to explore, either as Old Snake or the younger Solid Snake, and if there will be similar flashbacks to other parts of the older games (Like fighting Big Boss in MG2, or possibly parts of MGS2 where you play as Snake). EDIT: Looking back, isn't the suit Snake is wearing a bit odd? It doesn't look like his normal Sneaking suit from MGS, and looks somewhat like the suit from the very first promo art released for MGS4 (The one with Big Boss's corpse). The suit he has on looks like that.
I think the biggest plot twist of MGS4 will be that you are actually playing as Big Boss. Either that, or "Old Snake" is Big Boss and you play half of the game as him.
Damn YouTube quality...grumble Looks like you may be able to replay old missions - for the 100th time , yey
i'm still a massive fan of MGS1. So this little bit skyrockted this on my most wanted list. I hope they have remade a good chunk of MGS1 to replay.
From a journalist friend of mine who finished the game on the latest presentation of the game in Paris, you play a lot in Shadow Moses and many characters from this episode are coming back. The chapter in Shadow Moses begins with the diving scene in it's original PS1 graphics (damn i'm happy they throwed away the GC shit) as a reference for fans. And it seems that replay almost all the adventure. MGS4 concludes entierely the series, you can't enjoy the scenario if you have not played at least MGS1 and MGS2, there are tons of references. It's almost only made for fans. Next step is a movie directed by Kojima himself... But apparently it's just impossible for a MGS5 to get released.
Thats awesome. I was afraid you would not be able to do much at Shadow Moses, but being able to go through most of it and seeing how it has changed since the original Metal Gear Solid would be a perfect way to end the series.
Even though it isn't part of the "Solid" series I would have much rather seen the ruins of Outer Heaven or the base in Zanzibar than Shadow Moses again.
Recreating aspects of the older games?! No wonder they need Blu-ray! Guess the 360 won't be getting a surprise port in 6 months Guess I will have to buy a PS3 after all... looks awesome
Those flashbacks must be like MaxPayne's playable dreams, were you go around and then at some point you wake up. If you ask me I'll say this isnt fro the fans, but for the newbs that will not understand most of the plot since they didnt play MGS. While theres the possibility that you get to go through the same paths in a deserted shadow moses, I get the feeling that the player will get to see some of MGS crucial plot points so he/she can understand some of the story arcs in MGS4. I bet you wont get to the real (as in present-time) shadow moses until near the end (or at least the 2nd half of the game) where you get to fight liquid-ocelot in the (apparently broken) REX. For what I can see from the trailer the MGS1 parts uses the new graphics.
The clothes he was wearing remind me of Big Bosses clothes in MGS3. And why would they have you play MGS1 AGAIN with better graphics in a sequel? Wasn't Twin Snakes enough? Without the cheesy CG segments, of course....but you know, MGS2 with Ocelot and the Talking arm is about as stupid as stupid gets. Maybe they altered Shadow Moses so its not insanely easy with MGS2 gameplay. No really, Twin Snakes was cake because you could actually AIM your weapons and shoot from more directions than just in front of you.
Is there an official line these are flashbacks? Or maybe they are packaging a MGS remake for the collector's edition or something?
Off course the Shadow Moses chapter uses the new graphics engine, but the very beggining, when Snake remembers the very beggining of MGS1 (diving scene + hangar), it has it's original PS1 graphics before fading to new graphics. Just as a reference.
Nah, supposed to work like MGS3 during a scene/cut scene you'll have the option to hit R1 and it will trigger it. Kinda like given extra depth to a cut scene.
