My old Trinitron CRT has been on the way out for a while, so when it starting displaying red as black I decided to buy a new TFT screen. I went for a cheap 19", but made sure to choose one with DVI.

Now it's arrived, there's been some fuckup, it's the wrong one and only has d-sub (it's the same model, but seems slightly more expensive without DVI - I don't understand). The question is, does DVI really make much difference? It's going to cost me ~£10 to send it back, is it worth it? I'm not doing any graphic design stuff, I'm not even playing games really.

well technically, digital displays that use a a "grid" (in common language) are better displayed by a source that sends such signal as you get optimum centering of the screen and other nice stuff rendered to fit exactly your pixel (assuming you re running it at max resolution). On the other hand, D-sub/RGBHV/component and any other non-digital transmition is supposedly vunerable to noise (depends on the length of the cable), and is designed with cathode ray tubes in mind, not digital displays.

That said, I use a TFT monitor with a d-sub, since it's a cheap flatron by LG, and I m not complaining. However, centering of the screen might be a few pixels here n there, with a slight black margin all around etc. Overally in my opinion, DVi-D is probably better than your standard D-sub because it can "fit" the screen so much better, which in the end might also add clarity to the whole picture (depending on your software too)

Yeh, tell them it came shipped like that or that you specified you wanted a DVI port monitor but were given one with SVGA instead. Complain. Complain. Complain!

I ordered from Scan, who have always been good in the past. As far as they're concerned I ordered the wrong one (online), which is weird given the amount of time I put into making sure it was the right one. The guy on the phone wasn't budging though, so meh. I suppose it must have been an error at my end.

I'm not too bothered about the £10, I just want to know if I'm going to notice a difference.
