Due to start on January 9th is a brand new version of Saiyuuki or better known as Monkey or Monkey Magic in the west. I sure hoe the BBC get this one like they did with the original and translate it in to English. For now though I'll just watch it on TV in Japanese. Some of you may be happy to knwo that the new Monkey will be Katori Shingo ! Yep, that crazy guy we have another thread on :110: Yakumo
Here you go mate. there's even a clip you can watch. The section options are also in English but the actual info isn't. At least it will be easy to look around the pages. http://wwwz.fujitv.co.jp/gokuu/index.html Yakumo EDIT - Looks like there is no trailer even though it says there is. maybe coming soon?
Any of you guys hear of slingbox? let's you watch tv across lan, anywhere. I'd kill to have one setup in Tokyo.
The original Saiyuuki (Monkey/Monkey Magic/Monkey King) was a Japanese TV show based on a Chinese Legend that Dragonball is loosely based on. Anyway, the original TV show was translated in to English by the BBC in 1979. It was a wonderful show back then and still quite entertaining even now. It also featured special effect which back then were more impressive than anything else around. The new one promises to recreate the same image using today's latest GC effects. There are quite a few TV teasers on now but they don't really show much. If people are really interested I will video them on my capture card (Direct to harddrive from TV) then add them to my FTP or if someone can set up a Bit Torrent that would be great. I wont be able to add them to archive.org like Retro Core since it's a copyrighted show. Yakumo
Yeah, the Chinese legend that Dragonball is based on is called Journey to the west. Goku is supposed to be the moneky god Gokuu or Humanan in India, and he gets an iron staff, fights demons, etc.
Well just for the record [Saiyuuki the movie] [saiyuuki 2000 tv series] [monkey magic] [monkey king 1967 series] [monkey king movie] All the above are based on the same legend [except saiyuuki 2000 tv]. I see some lack of imagination here :033:
No. no, no. this is the real Monkey Magic that this new show is based on. The classic 70's show !! Here's the video CD running on my Saturn The guy who plays Monkey is now the star of a cooking show  Piggsy is in god knows how many things and Sandy (the kapa) is in deep debt after many bad deals. THe budda Tripitaka passed away due to cancer many years ago. Yakumo
LOL Sorry for posting crap i though it was an anime series. How many episodes has the original show ?_?
Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was that one. No worries mate. I have no idea how many episodes there are but needless to say there were quite a few. I ahve the fist 8 on Video CD. Yakumo
Ok although we are getting a little bit off topic :110: here is a nice link with all the info about the original series [episodes, seasons etc] Heh it says that it has been released in uk on dvd and vhs h: http://www.ewtoo.org/~matt/monkey/
Here's a better site: http://www.monkeyheaven.com/ That particular series was actually called "Monkey" in the English version - it's just the theme tune (done by Godiego, who also did music on some anime stuff like Galaxy Express 999) was called "Monkey Magic". There seems to be several million TV shows based on the Journey to the West story by this stage...
