Just recently I went to a hipster apparel store with lots of retro stuff, and they sell new 3rd party N64 controllers. Anyone ever seen those? Seemed very random to me, but maybe the N64 base is still bigger than I thought.
I've seen those at the Media Xchange by my house. Clearly third-party, which I've never liked, so I never bought one. Is it well made?

It was the first time I saw them in an actual store. I was surprised it's worthwhile to use the retail space for them. @slapducky I don't know, didn't buy it. $40 (incl. tax) for a 3rd party N64-controller? No thanks Lol
Nice, the NPS (the store selling it on ebay) is right near my house. I might try and snag it from them and skip ebay.
It would be nice to see in a store nearby, but it is really only worth about half of what they asked you for it. It is good to know that somewhere they are in a store though.
I have a Mega Media Xchange by me and they have these for $15. Not too bad a price but they aren't that good. The controller feels good but the stick is poop. It likes to wander a lot and has a weird dead spot in it. It's funny as they have fake Sony controllers by the brand named "Fony". I always chuckle at those. This shop does offer good prices though. $5 for a used official SNES or NES AC adapter is not bad. I recently picked up Megaman X3 for around $30 not to long ago from them. Heck I got a SFC copy of Hagane from them for $40.
Yeah, I've seen Retro-Bit's stuff on sale at a few different shops. N64 controllers, AV cables, the like.
I got a Retro-Bit Sega Genesis 6 button controller in a lot a while back. Bastards didn't even solder in the wires to the "MODE" button. Just left it in there disconnected...
I bought a retro-bit N64 controller. It isn't bad since the model I bought had used a PS style joystick instead of N64 to well, prevent breakage. As a side note, why does retro-bit and so many others who make 3rd party turbo controllers think that a "SLOW" option is a good idea? All it does is auto press the start button over, and over, AND OVER.
I never liked 3rd Party, so I never used such a controller. But great to see they are still being made and the scene is still alive. I could need a new N64 controller myself, as the two I have are already heavy used...
I'm definitely curious to see the stick's internal design. Lucky for me I've picked up a few like-new official controllers over the years so I've got some backups sitting around. I don't play N64 much anyway so I doubt I'll ever need to buy a new one...
Unfortunately they aren't. Maybe you could wire one up, though, and have it work. It would take some creative mounting work.
Tradition! I assume there must have been some old 8-bit games where it did actually just freeze the action and nothing else when you hit Start, so you could kinda-sorta get slow motion that way.
Someone rushed into the local Super Gator Gamz indie game shop desperately looking for an N64 controller today. When the employee ducked into the stockroom I told his potential customer that I saw several at the local Goodwill thrift store today, though the two official ones I recall had bad sticks (of course) and were ~$3. He didn't care and bought a new "TTX Tech" N64 controller for $12, even though he only wanted it to play Gauntlet Legends with a fourth player (ARCADE port! NO need for analog!). I bought one so I could look at the analog stick internals and I noted that it was a bit different than the one in the OP. The oval where the Nintendo logo goes has a raised center on mine. The colors look notably more accurate unless the OP's pictures look that way due to the camera. I haven't actually used it yet but I can already tell that the stick has more slack than a real controller (I have new/unused official controllers to compare to) and the A/B/Start buttons protrude farther and have a bit more travel. I left my screwdrivers at home so I won't be able to look at the stick internals for a while. Even ignoring the slack the stick just doesn't feel right but, like I said, I have yet to actually play with it. Also, the D-pad center can be pushed down and can press all four directions at once.
