Is Code R playable without much knowledge of Japanese? I've been looking for some decent Saturn racing games.

 

The racing section is playable however you won't get much fun out of the story section. The story section can be played though to reach new races by just pressing the A button all the time and selecting any option that may pop up but like I said, you'll miss out on the story.

in the same token Sakura Taisen is quite engaging and fun to play - if you understand what's on the screen and spoken...

 

I actually like Code R quite a lot. Lovely high resloultion graphics and even the racing section looks pretty nice.

 

Well I'm hoping to study abroad in Kyushu in 2 years as part of my University course so hopefully I'll have enough skill to understand the stories of games like Code R and Sakura Wars, plus play Shenmue 1 with the original Japanese voice acting instead of the crappy US dub, some how hearing Ryo say "way uncool" ruined the immersion for me...

 

I actually work in Kita Kyushu, Moji. What part of Kyushu will you be going to? I'm guessing Fukuoka area but there are a few uni's around this area too that have none natives attending.

No, I stopped that. It was doing pretty well but I couldn't keep up and found I had no personal time so I stopped it. Big downer on funds but at least I now have time to spend doing stuff I want to do. Who would have thought packing could take up so much time.

 

Oita prefecture, and I have a choice between a Uni in either Beppu or Oita city I think.
