I found a new prototype for PS1 called Maniac Moons circa 1998. The disk is a bit scratched and I got it to boot once on the PSone debug but it won't get far on the PS1 debugs. I can read the files on the pc and was hoping someone out there would know of a program which is best suited for backing up PS1 files.
Just use nero. Then burn back the image file. Or are PSX games hard to copy? Saturn stuff is easy. Yakumo
Noooo, not Nero. Use CDRWin, Alcohol or even CloneCD. If there are CDDA tracks use Exact Audio Copy to extract them.
Looks like a wiggy version of Asteroids. Weird that it wasnt playing on the earlier debugs, just the PSOne, especially for a 1998 game. I didnt mention it in the other thread, but hold it up to the light and check for missing flecks. I had a copy of MegaMan Legends that had the slightest missing fleck of label and no matter what I did when i hit a specific CG story point (that I had to go through), the game would freeze/crash.
Use CDRWin and those if you have tons of time and lots of extra hair to pull. use Nero if you want it done quickly, just make sure you have a burner that can burn the CD at 2x, or 4x.
Nero is a steaming pile of shit. It will always "fix" errorneous sectors, by just updating the ECC fields to match a bad sector. That's like giving a corrupt file a new checksum and calling it good again, at least with any other app you can send the image through CDMage or something to attempt an ACTUAL fix.
You can still back up PSX games with NERO, as long as its the ultra edition. Just turn on a few options and you're good to go.
For most PlayStation discs Nero and any other burning software will do fine. It might correct EDC/ECC codes, so it's not a 1:1 backup, but is that really a problem? No application will copy the "wobble boot protection", so a Debugging Station or chipped retail unit is always needed to boot the backup. The one case I can think of, when you need not to correct something, is with LibCrypt protected discs. LibCrypt keeps the key in the Q-channel, and if you "correct" it of course the game will crash at some point.... There might be discs that checks EDC/ECC, but none that I can think of... For audio tracks, if you really want a 1:1 backup, nothing I have seen beats EAC. Everyone should check out EAC, at least once, just to experience it's thoroughness... CF
Buyatari, will you consider selling your copy that doesn't read well? I'll at least take that one off your hands.
He doesn't sell copies. If he were to sell anything it would be the original. I have $200 USD earmarked if he decides sell his original. Hopefully that's enough because I'm butt poor at the moment. (It's usually times when I'm poor that things are available that I want and need. If Clayfighter or Major Damage were to appear I would be taking a loan out and getting a divorce.)
$200 is the starting price. It's up to BuyAtari to tell me how much he wants. I thought he mentioned he paid a certain amount for a lot of protos (pc included) so I took that into account.
Here is my reccomendation for cleaning badly scratched discs. First, whatever you do, DO NOT use one of those stupid Disc Doctor thingys. They just make the disc unreadable half the time. Go out to a good auto parts store around you (or order online) and get yourself a bottle of Meguiar's clear plastic cleaner and a bottle of their clear plastic polish. The stuff is meant for convertible rear windows, managed to turn my Miata's old rear window from being so scratched you couldn't see through it to almost new looking again. I use the stuff on cd's all the time, a little cleaning and polishing with a soft cloth and you can turn a cd that you scuffed up with a brillo pad to a completely shiny scratch free disc again. Amazing stuff, not the cheapest, but the bottles will last you for years. [edit] You can order the two products straight from their website. Here is the links for the two products.
