    Hi

I have an idea for a new accessory I'd like to have made for many retro consoles.

Having seen many new games and gadgets gotten funded via crowdfunding, I fancy having a go at getting something made and funded in such a manner. Sadly, I don't have the resources needed to make a prototype.

Here's my idea: I would like to see a line of adaptors for classic systems that will allow us to save our games to SD card. No, I DO NOT mean running games on old systems off SD card, I mean play original copies of games and save progress to SD card. (for example, play an original Mario Kart 64 Game Pak and be able to save ghosts to SD card)

Knowing that memory cards do eventually wear out, I feel that we should have a means of saving our games to SD card.

In addition, I'd like to see a souped up Dreamcast VMU which in addition to using an SD card for saved data, allows one to connect an original Game Boy power supply so you can enjoy VMU games without having to shell out for those rare and expensive CR2032 batteries!

    Thank you

Umm CR2032s aren't rare or expensive. At least in the United States. Many calculators, watches, and all PCs I've seen use them. I can go down to the store and pick up a two pack for a few dollars.

That being said it's an interesting idea. Modern game consoles support saving to something other than a memory card with the exception of the DC. There are SD card to memory card adapters for the GC that let you store saves on them if I recall correctly. The DC needs an obscure third party device or memory card to save data to anything other than VMUs. Retro consoles not so much...

There was a floppy drive memory card thingy for the PS1 which let you store saved on 3.5 inch floppy disks. Quite rare nowadays and expensive nowadays. Something similar existed for the Saturn but only a few games supported it. Of course you then have the DexDrives for the N64 and PS1 which let you store saves on a PC.

I'd definitely be interested for the DC and PS1 (and N64, why didn't all games save to the carts?), just so I wouldn't have to go around trying to figure out which VMU (of like 10) has the save for this game.

I used to have a DexDrive for the N64, but I can't find it anymore (it was like 13 years ago).

Well it may be better to make a device that can read and write a bung of memorycards as well as save memory off carts.
There are loads of devices that do that for each system but not one that can do them all (or a majority of them).

There was the Retrode for carts and then various other cart dumpers like BennVenn's ones for GB and GBA.

One really cool selling point would be PS2 MC writing (to make FREEMCB cards)
