i found by chance this italian article http://gadget.wired.it/news/videogiochi/2011/08/17/playstation-low-cost-14064.html stating that sony will release a cheap new psp at around 99$ rumors say it won't have wi-fi (sounds weird to me if true).
Yes, this is true! And no wi-fi is true as well! But it's europe only! Nice finish to the casing, though!
Yes it won't have WiFi. It's already on the PSP wikipedia page. I don't understand Sony's strategy however. The Vita is coming out this year/beginning next year, so launching another PSP seems weird. I know they want to keep the PSP alive next to the Vita but why no WiFi? If you want to keep the PSP alive, it's easier and cheaper to do that through the PSN store, because they shouldn't have to press UMD's anymore. Well, anyways, I like the PSP (and I seem one of the few actually), so I'm already happy Sony is keeping it alive.
Oh well i was on holyday and dind't spot it talking about the wi-fi absence i really can't understand the reason... how much will they save? 1-2$?
$2x1,000,000 ..... it adds up buddy, plus I can remember a time when I used wifi for any good reason... shitty web browser and I never play with another psp user.
I'll probably buy it, I sold my psp last year and I've been regretting it since. I never used wi-fi so it won't be a problem for me. Luckily I didn't sell my games (Ridge Racer here I come)
PSP 1000 forever! I wished for a PSP with upgraded WiFi security (wpa2-psk) and this is what we get, no WiFi at all.
Yeah, it's the PSP Model E1000 - and "cheap" hit the spot. It would be nice thing, esp. for 99 bucks, but w/o WiFi.... naahhhhhh.... I had one of those in my hands two weeks ago at GamesCom - before they pulled them off the floor 'cause they were hacked on-site
They have actually been using a similar strategy for a while now: Psone before PS2 was released then the PStwo before the PS3 came out and finally the PStwo 900x while the PS3 had been out for a year. The trend seems to be the same, cut down on component costs, while reducing weight and box sizes for shipping internationally... Personally wouldn't mind getting one if the price dropped to below 75 and if its available in South Africa
I don't think people are seeing the big picture. The reason this model exist is Europe wants a cheap PSP for the market (PSP has seem to found . Well why could they not just drop the price on normal units? Because Sony is still making a fuck ton off PSP in japan. The current price for a PSP in japan is slighly higher then the 3DS and they still easily sell 30-40k units a week. Why no Wi-fi? Well it's pretty damn clear, Adhoc multiplayer is a key reason why the PSP is doing so well in japan. A wi-fi less unit would be worthless to gamers in japan, So that keeps companies from importing cheaper PSP to sell at a markup in japan (it sort of happens already with current models).
these might be the market segments that a third party might conquer... A cheap, sturdy simple handheld with long battery life. suitable for long playing sessions and kids play. a machine that can fall on the ground often
Not according to every report I've read. Here's just a couple. http://vgamernews.com/articles/4287/psp-e1000-specification-detail/ http://www.gizmocrave.com/8094-sony-psp-e1000-specs-make-it-resemble-the-apple-iphone-than-psp-vita/
It looks like a monospeaker to me - the mic is usually by the volume button and PSP logo. I''m guessing it is a mono speaker as my PSP 3000 is stereo and there is no obvious right speaker there. There are a couple of buttons missing on the bottom right between the PSP logo and start/select but to be honest the lack of wifi - even with PSn store use, is no big deal, given that both the PS3 and Media go can handle this then transfer across. A ballache I know, but at least then your digital games are backed up and lets be honest - 80211.b is shit and there is little use for it nayway when 99% of your friends have a DS and those that own a PSP either have CFW or don't give enough of a shit about the system to buy any decent adhoc games. More to the point if I was with a mate we'd rather just go on a home console anyway - we don't really have the commuter community in quite the same way over here. All in all it is a welcome change IMO though really one that should have been done last year instead of that piece of shit PSPgo (of which I had 2 but still didn't get my 10 free games, fucking Sony =/)
