I've always loved tips for games. For me the tips & cheats pages were always the best part of any games magazine.

But can all of the tips and cheats for old Sega & Nintendo games have been found? There must be a few that went unnoticed.

Here's a couple I found back in the early 90's but never sent in to any magazine:

Pete Sampras Tennis for Sega Megadrive: There is an easier way to get the extra options other than typing in Zeppelin to the password screen. Simply rotate the D-pad in either direction on the title screen then press buttons A, B & C simultaneously .

Also, there is a little quirk on the Game Genie for the original Game Boy. On the 'Galoob' intro screen press and hold diagonal up & left and button A and keep them held. You can now type letters & numbers all over the screen.

I also found that warp cheat for Gameboy Zelda back in Jan '94 and got it printed in UK mag Nintendo Magazine System issue 18. Which I'm still proud of

Anyone have any more new tips for old games?

Also, I've always been mystified that there are level passwords for Ninja Gaiden on the Game Gear but the game has no password function. Back in '91 I managed to get the password screen to appear by randomly hitting buttons on the title screen but never found it again. Does anyone know the tip to get the screen to appear and solve an 18 year old mystery for me?

    Thanks!

I've found a secret stage in Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti which isn't covered in the FAQs at Gamefaqs:

When you are in the last stage (Hell House), enter the pyramid. Then jump
over the platforms and enter the next door. In the next room jump over the
platforms and go to the end of the room, but do NOT enter the next door. Go
some steps left from the door and push the up button. A secret door will
appear and you will enter the Secret Stage I. So you can access both Crystal
Balls in the last stage and get the best ending.

Here's a really cool glitch in Street Fighter 2 for the SNES that to the best of my knowledge wasn't found back in the 90s:

This works as I tried it this morning!

I remember proving Game Players magazine wrong on two counts.

    1. Yeah, there are six keys in the Bottle Grotto dungeon of Link's Awakening. Of course, anyone who figured out how to kill the Shy Guys knows this.

    2. You can get the Heart Tank on Overdrive Ostrich's stage in Megaman X2 without suiciding. Just ride the Land Chaser all the way to it, turn around at the last possible second so you grab the tank as you turn around, and ride away to victory. It can be done. (Hell, even the hint line at Nintendo Power didn't think it was possible.)

And of course, I'm proud to say I found the A+B+C+Start code for Sonic & Knuckles' "No Way!" screen all on my own. :3

I'm sure it's in a FAQ nowadays, but the Prima guide to Super Mario World didn't have one secret listed in it. It's been years, but I remember that at the beginning of one of the castles you can fly straight up (hard to do with the amount of running space) and find a hidden room with coins and a powerup: nothing particularly special.
I felt like a god for finding it, because if a secret wasn't listed in a guide or magazine in those days, it just didn't exist.

And on the other hand, I thought I knew EVERY secret in SMB3 since it's my favorite game and I've beaten it dozens of times. Then I got stationed in Japan and bought an old SMB3 hintbook there; it had a lot of illustrations so I didn't need to read it. The stuff I found blew my mind...the author definitely played through every line of code...

Here's some "new" Game Genie codes I made tonight for The Simpsons Bart Vs Space Mutants on NES. Hard to believe Galoob never made an Infinite Lives code themselves but they didn't.

    Next Level on Death.
    XVSTXIES + XVSTUIYE

    Infinite Lives
    ...
(wasn't working properly, need to redo it)

    is that shit legit?

also - many people don't know this. In Super Mairo Bros if you're big mario and you hit bowser and the Axe at the exact same time, you will blink and get hit but continue on to the end.

On the next level you'll be small mario. Then when you hit a block it'll be a fireflower as little mario. Grab it and you will be small mario but in fire mario colors. Shoot a fireball and you become big mario for just a second.

Yep, and if you get hit when you're big mario, you die.

Difficult to pull off that trick. I've only managed the timing once.

I was asking myself the same thing. I know I remembered the moves but havent played the game in about 15 years.

Loaded the rom up and it works.
