Hi everyone, I just picked up a laptop from a friend of mine and I'd like to play some games on it. But I'm a novice when it comes to playing games on my PC aside from a handful of older PC games and a few emulators. I'm curious what would I be able to run? Would I be able to buy something like Mortal Kombat X and play it? Would I be able to run something like a PS2 emulator?

PROCESSOR AMD A4-5000 APU with Radeon(TM) Graphics 1.50GHz
Installed RAM 4.00 (3.46 GB usable)
System type operating system, x64 based processor
    Windows 8.1

    display adapters
    AMD Radeon HD 8330

You can run almost all games on a moderate setting. The a4-5000 is no real powerhouse for sure.

Emulation should not be an issue as I am guessing your screen is going to be 1366x768

To be honest, even for a laptop, your computer is quite weak. I can sefely say that you can run most games until 2009 on decent settings and a playable framerate. Although a few games, like GTA IV won't run properly.

Your PC is best suited for indie games and emulators.
You can probably run most emulators, you may have trouble with PS2 and Gamecube/Wii emulation.

You can run older games no problem, and to me and a lot of people, many of the best PC games are from a decade or more back. Games such as Unreal Tournament (original 1999 version), Unreal Tournament 2004, Quake 3, Half-Life 1 and 2, Deus Ex, No One Lives Forever 1 and 2, System Shock 1 and 2, Morrowind, Vampire: The Masquerade, Thief 1, Thief 2, Thief 3 (Deadly Shadows) (note, by 'Thief 1' I mean the original and classic game from the 1990s, not the recent and massively inferior modern 'reboot'), XIII, Psi Ops, Second Sight, GTA San Andreas (my favourite GTA game, I even prefer it to GTA V), Carmageddon, and lots lots more. Plus many of these games have free mods (new levels, weapons, gameplay modes, etc, that are made by fans of the games).

Highly recommend System Shock 2. That game is amazing. Spiritual predecessor to Bioshock.

If you can manage to run vanilla DOOM 3, there are tons of mods for that on Moddb. Loads of free extra content.
